| The chrysanthemum field of Duong Quang Cooperative (Phong Quang commune) is an attractive place for tourists and students to experience. |
In the period of 2020-2025, the province's agricultural and forestry production will shift strongly towards commodities, focusing on quality and brand. Rural areas will be marked by more than 500 OCOP products, of which 10 products will meet national 5-star standards.
National target programs on new rural areas, poverty reduction and socio -economic development in ethnic minority areas have created clear changes in life, contributing to affirming the role of agriculture and rural areas in the overall stability and development of the province.
After the merger, Thai Nguyen expanded its development space with diverse natural conditions, large forest resources and a previously established agricultural production and processing foundation. The combination of the agricultural and forestry production area of Bac Kan (old) and the key tea area of Thai Nguyen created a richer agricultural ecosystem. This not only increased the production scale but also opened up opportunities to reorganize raw material areas according to the chain, reducing fragmentation and promoting sub-regional advantages.
However, the province's agricultural sector is facing many challenges. Small-scale production is still common in some areas, processing technology is uneven, market linkage capacity is limited, while requirements for food safety and traceability are increasingly high. Raising product standards, expanding markets and applying technology to production have become urgent requirements.
In that context, the Resolution of the Provincial Party Congress for the 2025-2030 term identifies agriculture as a field that needs to make a breakthrough. The set goal is to increase the value of agricultural, forestry and fishery production by an average of 4% per year; bring the value of tea products to about 25 trillion VND by 2030; strive for 95% of communes to meet new rural standards; increase forest coverage to 60% and promote green economy, gradually forming a carbon credit market - a field that is assessed to have great potential.
An important orientation is to restructure agriculture towards increasing added value. The province prioritizes the development of organic agriculture, high-tech agriculture, and expands the linkage model between enterprises - cooperatives - farmers to form a stable production - processing - consumption chain. Along with that is the goal of enhancing the brand of "Thai Nguyen tea", considering this a key product line that needs in-depth investment.

The tea industry is identified as a focus with the goal of having 70% of the area meeting VietGAP or organic standards by 2030; expanding the area to 24,500 hectares; fresh tea bud output of about 300,000 tons; at the same time focusing on conquering high-quality markets such as Japan, the US, and Europe. Linking tea production with experiential tourism and tea culture is also considered a suitable direction to increase product value.
In addition to tea, Thai Nguyen has great potential in other groups of crops such as fruit trees, medicinal herbs, and galangal, along with a rich OCOP product system. To promote this advantage, the province needs to complete the planning of production areas according to the characteristics of each region; develop deep processing facilities, packaging, labeling and traceability systems; and expand the logistics network to support the circulation of agricultural products.
An important solution is to strengthen the cooperative system. As a bridge between farmers and businesses, cooperatives are responsible for organizing production, transferring technology, monitoring standards and linking markets. Improving management capacity, promoting trade and applying digital technology to cooperatives will create a foundation for Thai Nguyen agricultural products to increase their competitiveness.
Developing agriculture in association with community tourism is also a potential direction. Tea regions such as Tan Cuong, La Bang, Trai Cai or mountainous ecological areas in Bac Kan province (old) have the conditions to form an experiential tourism model associated with agricultural production. This is a way to increase product value and create more jobs and stable income for rural people.
Overall, the province's new orientations are opening up great opportunities for agriculture and rural areas to enter a stronger development phase. When planning is synchronized, infrastructure is invested, businesses have more motivation to participate and people continue to innovate their production thinking, Thai Nguyen's agricultural sector will have enough conditions to create a new shift, contributing to the goal of green growth, increasing income and improving the quality of life in rural areas in the coming years.
