Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Association prepares a series of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations

On October 14 in Phu Tho, the Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Association held an expanded meeting of the Standing Committee to evaluate the results of recent activities and agree on the direction for implementing programs to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Thailand. Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, former member of the Party Central Committee, Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, Chairman of the Association chaired the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Viet Loan, Vice President - General Secretary of the Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Association, said: in the context of many unpredictable changes in the region and the world , including the border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia, Thailand has just established a minority coalition government, people-to-people exchange activities between the two countries are still maintained actively and effectively.

From September 2024 to present, the Association has carried out many outstanding activities: attending the inauguration ceremony of Vietnam Cultural Street in Nakhon Phanom (Thailand), the Kathina robe offering ceremony at Phuc Minh Pagoda, Thai Binh Province (old); donating an ultrasound machine to Nam Dan District Medical Center (Nghe An); organizing a friendly match between Vietnam - Thailand U17 women's football; attending activities to celebrate the 135th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh in Nakhon Phanom and the inauguration ceremony of the Lotus Pond around One Pillar Pagoda in Khon Kaen (Thailand).

The Association also participated in many activities organized by partner agencies, such as business seminars, the opening of an exhibition on President Ho Chi Minh and the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day in Udon Thani (Thailand). In addition, the Association coordinated with the Thai Embassy and localities to organize business connection programs in Lao Cai, the opening of the Go Supermarket Center in Hung Yen, volunteer activities on the occasion of the Queen Mother of Thailand's birthday, and welcomed a group of Thai students to study advanced Vietnamese at the University of Danang.

According to Mr. Nguyen Viet Loan, the above positive results were achieved thanks to the proactive and responsible role of the Association's leaders and local branches, contributing to enhancing understanding and connection between the people of the two countries.

In the coming time, the Association will focus on preparing for the 14th joint meeting with the Thailand - Vietnam Friendship Association, scheduled to be held in Hai Phong in December 2025, and at the same time establish subcommittees to prepare for activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam - Thailand diplomatic relations (June 8, 1976 - June 8, 2026).

It is expected that the Association will organize a ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in Vinh city (Nghe An); golf exchange between businessmen of the two countries; meet Vietnamese and Thai businesses on the occasion of the traditional New Year; plant friendship trees in Phu Tho; participate in activities of the Thai Embassy in Vietnam; at the same time, connect businesses, seek specific cooperation partners and prepare for the 15th meeting of the two Associations in Thailand.

The Association also plans to organize a working delegation to visit and work with local friendship associations, especially in places where administrative units have been merged, to strengthen the organization, increase cohesion and improve operational efficiency.

At the meeting, delegates agreed with the report of the Standing Committee and gave comments on many key contents: perfecting the provincial association apparatus after the merger, preparing for the 14th joint meeting with the Thailand - Vietnam Friendship Association, determining practical products to display, and expanding the participation of local businesses.

Opinions also proposed to strengthen connections between businesses and the Vietnamese community in Thailand, promote economic cooperation, especially support the export of Vietnamese agricultural products such as Son La plums to the Thai market.

Concluding the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh highly appreciated the sense of responsibility and working results of the Central Association and its member organizations, especially the close and effective coordination between the Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Association and the Thailand - Vietnam Friendship Association in recent times.

He requested to urgently complete the project to organize the 14th joint meeting between the two Associations, clearly define the content, products, coordination mechanism and information after the meeting, ensuring quality, progress and real effectiveness. The work of preparing and welcoming the delegation needs to be carried out meticulously and thoughtfully, showing sincere feelings and friendship, avoiding formalities and carelessness.

Regarding business activities, he suggested building a two-way connection project between Vietnamese and Thai businesses, creating a "two-way flow" in trade and investment cooperation and promoting typical products of each country.

He also noted reviewing and perfecting the local association organization model in accordance with the process of merging administrative units, ensuring a compact and effective apparatus and maintaining connectivity within the Association system.
