32nd Diplomatic Conference: Plenary session on economic diplomacy for national development

Within the framework of the 32nd Diplomatic Conference, on the morning of December 21, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a live conference combined with an online plenary session on economic diplomacy serving the country.

Comrades: Nguyen Khac Than, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Lai Van Hoan, Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and delegates attended the conference at Thai Binh bridge.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended and directed the conference. Attending the conference at Thai Binh bridge were comrades: Nguyen Khac Than, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Lai Van Hoan, Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and leaders of a number of departments and branches.

In his opening speech, Comrade Bui Thanh Son, member of the Party Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, emphasized: In the great general achievements of foreign affairs, there is a very important contribution of economic diplomacy. Since the 13th National Party Congress and the National Foreign Affairs Conference, foreign affairs and diplomacy have closely followed the foreign policy of the 13th National Party Congress, the directions of the Politburo, the Secretariat and the leaders of the Party and the State, especially the directions of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the National Foreign Affairs Conference, while strongly promoting the identity of "Vietnam's bamboo diplomacy". In recent years, economic diplomacy has been strongly and synchronously deployed across all foreign affairs pillars, including Party diplomacy, State diplomacy and people-to-people diplomacy, making an important contribution to building the foundation, potential, position and international prestige that our country has never had before like today. Vietnam is now the 11th largest economy in Asia, among the 40 largest economies in the world, 30 economies with the largest trade, one of the 3 countries attracting the largest foreign investment in ASEAN and has a deep, multi-layered economic network, including 16 signed FTAs ​​covering all the world's key economies.

At the conference, delegates focused on discussing and assessing the world economic outlook, investment trends of major countries and their impacts on the Vietnamese economy; exchanging experiences in taking advantage of local free trade agreements to accelerate exports; the potential for developing the semiconductor industry as well as the role of diplomacy in connecting Vietnamese enterprises to participate in regional and global semiconductor supply chains; proposing solutions to attract foreign resources to serve strategic breakthroughs; deepening economic cooperation with other countries and taking advantage of new initiatives for strategic infrastructure development...

Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh acknowledged and commended the results achieved in economic diplomacy in particular and foreign affairs in general in recent times. Analyzing the lessons learned, the Prime Minister said that the results achieved were thanks to concretizing the Party's guidelines and policies; promoting the tradition of the diplomatic sector; having active coordination between ministries and branches; always putting national and ethnic interests first, harmonizing benefits and risks in economic diplomacy; responding quickly and promptly to policies; practical, effective and sincere diplomatic measures; closely following domestic requirements and the needs of people and businesses; building a team of dedicated and visionary diplomatic staff...

The Prime Minister requested ministries, branches and localities to have innovative, positive and effective thinking; grasp the situation and change their approach to advise the Party and State to build a suitable economic diplomacy strategy; skillfully combine national strength and the strength of the times; learn modern management methods and human resource management; perfect the institutions of a socialist-oriented market economy; ensure independence, autonomy and active integration; stay close to reality to do what people and businesses need; build a team of diplomatic cadres who are politically steadfast, economically sensitive, proficient in diplomatic skills, knowledgeable about the law and have both heart and vision.

The Prime Minister stated: In 2024, there will be many intertwined opportunities and challenges, so diplomacy needs to be proactive, close to the new situation; have a strategic vision; continue to institutionalize the Party's foreign policy, focusing on key and key stages; clearly identify difficulties and challenges that need to be resolved; perfect institutions and cooperation mechanisms to ensure full, practical and well-organized implementation; be flexible, proactive, and strong to quickly diversify markets, products, and supply chains; promote self-reliance, self-reliance, initiative, and creativity; strengthen coordination between ministries, branches, and localities...

On this occasion, collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in diplomacy received certificates of merit from the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
