Trade promotion conference opens up opportunities for businesses in the Mekong Delta

In fulfillment of the tasks of the Mekong Delta Regional Coordination Council as stipulated in Decision No. 974/QD-TTg dated August 19, 2023, of the Prime Minister on the establishment of the Mekong Delta Regional Coordination Council; and in implementation of the 2024 work program, the Trade Promotion Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) will organize the "Conference on Trade Promotion and Export-Import Development in the Mekong Delta Region" on September 6, 2024.

The conference is expected to attract approximately 200 delegates, including leaders from the People's Committees of provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region, leaders from relevant units under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, industry associations, representatives from business support agencies and organizations, and businesses involved in manufacturing, import-export, trade, and logistics services.

The conference will focus on discussing many important issues in cooperation to develop trade promotion and import-export activities in the Mekong Delta region, such as: Linking the development of export value chains for manufactured industrial products, supporting industries, and high-quality agricultural products (such as rice, vegetables, and fruits); Linking the development of logistics services for export, effectively exploiting marine economic products for export; Linking the development of energy sectors and industrial park/cluster infrastructure to serve export production; Cooperation and linkage in implementing regional-scale trade promotion programs…

Alongside the conference, there will be exhibition spaces to showcase and promote products from localities and businesses in the region, creating opportunities for trade connections between suppliers of goods and services in the Mekong Delta region and import-export businesses and trade promotion organizations.

The Mekong Delta region comprises 13 provinces, accounting for 13% of the country's area and 18% of its population, holding a particularly important position in the national economy and overall development. The Mekong Delta region possesses significant potential, opportunities, and advantages for development; it is the largest production center in the country for food, seafood, and fruits. According to development targets set for 2030, the average growth rate of the Mekong Delta region during the 2021-2030 period is expected to reach approximately 6.5-7% per year, with the size of the economy in 2030 being 2-2.5 times that of 2021, leading to a huge demand for logistics services.

In recent years, the Mekong Delta region has achieved many outstanding socio-economic results, but these have not been commensurate with its potential and advantages. One of the reasons is the underdeveloped logistics sector, creating a bottleneck that limits competitiveness and development opportunities. To achieve rapid and sustainable development, the Mekong Delta region needs to leverage its competitive and comparative advantages, and enhance its position in the global value chain.

Therefore, with the participation of numerous delegates from agencies, businesses, and localities, the Conference on Trade Promotion and Import-Export Development in the Mekong Delta is expected to generate positive results, boost import-export activities, attract investment, and elevate the trade of the Mekong Delta to a new level.
