BTO - This morning (October 27th), the Union of Science and Technology Associations of Binh Thuan Province, in coordination with relevant agencies inside and outside the province, organized a workshop on "Solutions for linking rice production to adapt to climate change". The workshop was attended by representatives from several relevant departments and agencies, and 130 delegates who are rice farmers in the province.
At the workshop, delegates heard presentations from various units, agencies, scientists, and businesses such as the Plant Protection and Crop Production Sub-Department, the Agricultural Extension Center, the Agricultural Seed Center, scientists from within and outside the province, and related enterprises. Through this, they exchanged ideas, discussed, and shared useful information on solutions for linking rice production to adapt to climate change.
Some of the topics discussed included the achievements in restructuring crop patterns on rice land, the socialization of using certified rice varieties in production; the situation of high-quality rice production in the province; scientific research and agricultural extension…
The workshop also provided information on several models of rice production adapted to climate change through value chain linkages; and outlined future implementation directions for these models. It also introduced several climate-adaptive rice varieties, smart rice production processes, rice cultivation techniques, and fertilization techniques. One of the solutions highlighted was that farmers need to sow at appropriate densities, use water efficiently and effectively, and increase the use of organic fertilizers... in order to reduce production costs and increase economic efficiency, while minimizing negative impacts on the ecological environment.
Delegates suggested that relevant agencies, especially the agricultural sector, should further research solutions to promote rice production linkages, particularly focusing on developing more new models and applying new scientific and technological advancements to rice production; and introduce these to the people for consideration and application to the specific conditions of the province.
Binh Thuan province is known to have favorable conditions for agricultural development, with rice being one of its main crops. According to agricultural data, the province's annual rice cultivation area exceeds 100,000 hectares; the average yield is over 60 quintals/hectare. However, the province currently faces many difficulties in adapting its rice production to climate change. In addition, the collaboration between scientists, state management agencies, businesses, and producers is limited, product outlets are unstable, and fertilizer use is not rational.
Therefore, the workshop is an opportunity for experts, scientists, specialized agencies, businesses, and farmers to exchange ideas, clarify difficulties, shortcomings, and inadequacies, and share best practices. It also aims to propose additional solutions for linking rice production to adapt to climate change in the province in the future.
