HoREA recommends allowing commercial banks to work on December 30 and 31

According to Mr. Le Hoang Chau, Chairman of HoREA, commercial banks will work until 8:00 PM today, Friday, December 29th, and begin their New Year's holiday from December 30th.

Since December 31, 2023 is the last day of the accounting and planning year, many businesses need credit transactions to strive to complete their revenue targets and signed economic contracts. In addition, localities also need to disburse public investment funds for 2023.

Horea petitioned for permission for commercial banks to operate on December 30th and 31st (Figure 1).

However, since December 30th and 31st, 2023 fall on a Saturday and Sunday, Mr. Chau suggested that the Prime Minister consider directing the State Bank of Vietnam and the State Treasury to instruct commercial banks and the State Treasury to continue working on Saturday and Sunday, December 30th and 31st, 2023.

This gives businesses with transaction needs two extra trading days, and provinces and centrally-governed cities two extra days to disburse public investment funds. Afterwards, officials, civil servants, and employees who have to work overtime will be given compensatory leave.
