On the afternoon of August 13th, at the Government headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received the Ambassador of New Zealand to Vietnam, Caroline Beresford, who paid a courtesy visit upon the commencement of her term.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister thanked the Government of New Zealand for sending sincere condolences and for sending a Special Envoy to attend the State Funeral of the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, an exceptionally outstanding leader of the Vietnamese people.
The Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and satisfaction with the results of his official visit to New Zealand in March 2024. The Prime Minister highly appreciated the active coordination between the Ambassadors and the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both countries in implementing the achievements of the visit; in particular, the visit of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Peters, who co-chaired the 2nd Vietnam-New Zealand Foreign Ministers' Meeting in June 2024, helped to concretize many cooperation contents.
The Prime Minister highly appreciated the continued development and deepening of Vietnam-New Zealand relations and emphasized that 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 5th anniversary of the Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and New Zealand. This is an important milestone for the two countries to plan meaningful activities, including arranging high-level visits. On this occasion, the Prime Minister extended his greetings and expressed his hope to welcome New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon to Vietnam in 2025.

The Prime Minister proposed that both sides outline roadmaps, steps, and substantive content to upgrade relations and implement more breakthrough measures to achieve the target of US$2 billion in bilateral trade by the end of 2024 and US$3 billion by 2026, including facilitating each other's import and export products; thanked and requested New Zealand to continue supporting English language and specialized training for central and local-level officials in Vietnam; and expand people-to-people exchanges.
Ambassador Caroline Beresford conveyed greetings from New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, expressing her pleasure at taking up her post in Vietnam – one of New Zealand's important partners in Southeast Asia.
The Ambassador expressed his desire to further develop the Vietnam-New Zealand relationship comprehensively and profoundly, aiming to upgrade it to a new level. Thanking the Prime Minister for his attention and guidance, the Ambassador affirmed his commitment to coordinating with relevant agencies and ministries of both countries to promote cooperation in potential areas, including trade and investment, education, agriculture, and emerging fields such as climate change, green economy, and digitalization.

The Ambassador also shared plans to organize meaningful activities to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-New Zealand relations in 2025, including organizing events to meet businesses and students who have studied in New Zealand in Hue and other locations.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated Ambassador Caroline Beresford's remarks on the need for close coordination between Vietnam and New Zealand in multilateral forums; emphasizing that the two countries share many common views on regional and international issues, which is the foundation for strengthening cooperation and contributing to building a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean region.
