In late November, Ms. Nguyen Phuong Thao's small drink shop in Quan Thanh, Hanoi , unexpectedly welcomed a special guest.
That was Peter, a tourist from Poland, currently living and working in Malaysia. The customer continuously visited the shop for many days in a row during his stay in Hanoi, trying all the drinks on the menu.

On the last day before saying goodbye to Vietnam, the guest gave the staff 500,000 VND to gradually deduct from the drink bill (Photo: Character provided).
After a trip to explore Hoi An and return to Hanoi, Peter was introduced to a coffee shop by a friend in a group named Daro. This is a group of guests who share the same passion for traveling around the world .
November 27 was the first day Peter came to the shop. Here, he tried the matcha (green tea) and found it to be to his liking. After that, for 4 consecutive days, the customer came back every day. Partly because he loved the drinks here, and another reason was that he stayed at a hotel not far from the shop so it was convenient to travel.
The guest said that the cozy atmosphere and friendly staff are what he enjoys. He often lingers to chat with the staff, sharing with them his journey of discovering Vietnam.
After trying all the drinks on the menu, the guest "entrusts" the bartender to choose any kind for the guest.

November 30th was Peter's last day in Vietnam. Early the next morning, he would catch an early flight back to Malaysia. Therefore, the customer arrived at the restaurant quite early on the morning of November 30th. He gave the staff a 500,000 VND bill and asked the restaurant to deduct it from the cost of the drinks that day.
Hearing the customer say that, Ms. Thao was quite surprised because she had never encountered a similar situation before.
During that day, the customer came to the shop 5-6 times to drink. With drinks costing around 50,000 VND - 60,000 VND each, the total amount the customer spent was around 300,000 VND and there was still money left. However, he smiled and said to leave it there.
"The next morning he had a flight, but that night, the customer still came to the restaurant. He brought a bottle of wine and a can of soda to mix, and offered it to the restaurant staff to show his enthusiasm. After a few days of contact, we found him very cheerful and sociable," Ms. Thao shared.
Also in the conversation, the guest revealed more about his rather special lifestyle. He only spends 6 months a year working and accumulating finances.
The remaining half of the year, he will spend time traveling and experiencing life. Vietnam is one of the destinations that impressed the guest. He commented, the landscape is beautiful, the people are friendly and the food is delicious.
Although he is not sure when he will return, the Polish guest said that if he has the chance, he will come to Hanoi again.
It is known that Ms. Thao's coffee shop was originally just a take-away coffee counter (customers come to buy and take away). In recent months, the owner rented the space and renovated it into a small shop with a modest area of about 15 square meters. The inside of the shop is compact, only seating a maximum of about 6 customers.
"Thanks to its location in the center of the capital, the restaurant attracts quite a lot of foreign customers. People come and go, sharing many interesting stories. Each customer has a different personality, but the story about Peter surprised me with his sincerity and friendliness," Ms. Thao confided.
