According to information from the Command Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Sa Pa town, on the morning of June 30, the Hoang Lien commune authorities received a report from the victim's family that two children, Ly A P. (born in 2014) and Ly A S. (born in 2017), Mong ethnic group, both residing in Lao Hang Chai village, Hoang Lien commune, had invited each other to go fishing in the stream. Due to the sudden flood water from upstream, the two children went missing.
Immediately after receiving the news, local authorities and the Command Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Sa Pa town and local people organized a search for the children on Lao Hang Chai stream.
Sa Pa Town People's Committee also directed the People's Committees of Cau May and Ta Van communes to support the implementation of measures to search for missing victims in the downstream area.
