These are all accidents that happened when children were playing at home, and parents were not able to react in time. The most recent case was a 3-year-old boy in Khanh Vinh commune, who was hospitalized on the night of November 25th in a state of crying a lot.

The family said the child accidentally swallowed the coin while playing. A CT scan showed the foreign object in the stomach. Doctors urgently performed an endoscopy and removed the coin in the early morning of November 26. The child was stable and discharged from the hospital later.

According to doctors, the hospital records an average of 15 cases of foreign body aspiration in both children and adults each month. The consecutive receipt of 5 cases of coin swallowing in a short period of time is a worrying sign, warning of a high risk of accidents for young children.

Foreign objects entering the airway can cause acute, life-threatening obstruction. Even if they enter the digestive tract, foreign objects can still cause injury, especially sharp objects.

Parents should never let children play with small objects; always observe children; remove easily swallowed objects from reach. If you suspect your child has swallowed or choked on a foreign object, take the child to a medical facility with endoscopy equipment for timely treatment to avoid dangerous complications.
