KCNA confirmed yesterday that North Korea had blown up inter-Korean connecting roads, destroying approximately 60 meters of road and rail links on October 15. Pyongyang asserted that the move was in accordance with its amended constitution, which designates South Korea as a hostile nation.
"These measures were taken due to the serious security situation that is on the brink of unpredictable war, because of political and military provocations from hostile forces," KCNA said in its report yesterday.

South Korea strongly condemned the aforementioned amendments to North Korea's constitution. The South Korean Ministry of Unification stated that its policy is to continue pursuing the goal of reunification, but will respond with force if North Korea takes any aggressive action.
Meanwhile, Pyongyang views the bombing of the roads as part of an effort to completely separate North Korean territory from South Korea. Amidst the latest tensions in inter-Korean relations, South Korean Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Kim Myung-soo canceled his planned visit to the U.S., opting instead for a virtual meeting, Yonhap reported on October 16.
