This morning, December 15, right after the groundbreaking ceremony of the Quang Tri Industrial Park Project, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province coordinated with the joint venture of investors T&T Group - CIENCO4 to organize the groundbreaking ceremony of the Quang Tri Airport Project. The Quang Tri Airport construction investment project was approved by the Prime Minister for investment and construction under the public-private partnership (PPP) method in Decision No. 2148/QD-TTg dated December 20, 2021 and the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee approved the Feasibility Study Report in August 2023 with the goal of meeting the increasing demand for air transport, contributing to promoting political, economic and social development.

At the same time, ensure high mobility in defense as well as in rescue work; ensure national defense and security of the Central region in general and Quang Tri province in particular; in accordance with the planning and orientation of transport development.

The project is implemented in Gio Quang, Gio Hai and Gio Mai communes (Gio Linh district). This is a key location in the Central region, connecting North-South traffic to National Highway 1 - Ho Chi Minh Road and North-South traffic with the East-West Economic Corridor axis via National Highway 9 and Lao Bao International Border Gate, an important gateway to attract passengers to the Mekong sub-region to Central Vietnam.

The project has a scale of over 265 hectares, with a total investment of 5,833.9 billion VND in 2 phases; it is invested and built to meet the standards of a level 4C airport (according to the standard code of the International Civil Aviation Organization - ICAO), capable of developing and exploiting Code E aircraft, allowing the exploitation of irregular international flights according to the planning in Decision No. 648/QD-TTg dated June 7, 2023 of the Prime Minister (when needed) and a level II military airport, meeting the exploitation needs of up to 5 million passengers/year and 25,500 tons of cargo/year.

At the launching ceremony, on behalf of the Investor Consortium, the representative of T&T Group expressed high determination and commitment to focus resources and human resources to soon complete legal procedures, grant construction permits, implement construction to ensure safety and quality, and complete the project on schedule.

At the same time, the locality is expected to promptly complete the site clearance compensation and hand over the site to implement the project; support investors with legal procedures for construction licensing and guide investors on the procedures so that the airport can operate immediately after construction is completed. Research and consider opening flight routes when Quang Tri Airport is completed and qualified for operation and exploitation.

In particular, special attention should be paid to exploiting international flights to Quang Tri in the direction of the East-West Economic Corridor. Increasing investment attraction for industrial, energy, tourism projects, urban airport development and investment projects to create momentum for socio-economic development and support the development of Quang Tri Airport.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Van Hung emphasized: As an important part of the transport infrastructure system, aviation infrastructure is highly specific, modern and deeply integrated internationally.

The development of air transport infrastructure will strengthen and expand transport methods to share and connect domestically and internationally, thereby promoting socio-economic development and performing the task of ensuring national defense and security, and protecting territorial sovereignty.

The investment in Quang Tri Airport not only realizes the goal of "opening the sky" but also strengthens the connection with the effectively exploited traffic infrastructure system such as: National Highway 1, North-South Expressway, National Highway 9, Cua Viet Port; along with the traffic system planned by the Government, the province is completing procedures to invest in the construction of projects before 2030 such as: My Thuy deep-water port, Cam Lo - Lao Bao Expressway, National Highway 15D....

At the same time, he affirmed that the launching ceremony of the Quang Tri Airport project is an important premise for implementing the next steps, with the determination to start investment in the first quarter of 2024, so the task ahead is very heavy, requiring the mobilization of all resources, intelligence, enthusiasm, courage and high determination of the entire political system to succeed.

The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee hopes that the Government, ministries, departments and central branches will continue to pay attention, help and support the province to complete this key project as soon as possible.

At the same time, it is requested that relevant departments, branches, sectors and localities clearly identify this as a particularly important project of the province, uphold the sense of responsibility to support and closely coordinate with investors to quickly and promptly resolve difficulties and problems during the project implementation process; strengthen propaganda and mobilize people to comply with and support the project implementation policy.

On the investor side, it is also necessary to focus human and material resources to promptly complete investment preparation procedures, speed up construction progress to ensure the goal of completing the project with the motto: Fastest time - Best quality - Highest efficiency.

Within the framework of the project launching ceremony, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province awarded the Decision approving the results of investor selection and the Business Registration Certificate of the PPP project enterprise to the investor consortium of T&T Transport Infrastructure Investment and Development Company Limited (a member of T&T Group) and CIENCO4 Group Joint Stock Company.
