
The Deputy Prime Minister welcomed Minister Jason Clare's visit to Vietnam; highly appreciated the effective working results between the Ministers of Education of the two countries and the signing of several important cooperation documents on this occasion.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long emphasized the special and increasingly important position of education and training cooperation between the two countries within the overall context of the currently thriving Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Both sides effectively implemented the Agreement on Education and Training Cooperation between the two Governments for the period 2024-2028 and the Supplementary Agreement between the two Governments related to the Bilateral Human Resource Development Program for the period 2021-2025.
Noting that the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training is implementing doctoral and master's degree training for lecturers at higher education institutions under Project 89, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long expressed his pleasure that many people sent for doctoral training have registered to study in Australia.
The Deputy Prime Minister stated that, in implementing Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW, dated August 22, 2025, of the Politburo on breakthroughs in education and training development, Vietnam considers education and training a top national priority, aiming to build a high-quality workforce to meet development requirements.
In this context, Vietnam hopes to receive support, encouragement, and cooperation from international friends, especially traditional partners like Australia.
The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his hope that Australia would continue to support English language training to help Vietnam effectively implement the "Making English a Second Language in Schools 2025-2035" project; encourage the opening of Australian university branches in Vietnam; and continue to support Vietnamese students in their studies in Australia. He also requested Australia to further strengthen cooperation in fields such as science and technology and innovation, which are important drivers for Vietnam's growth in the coming years.
Thanking the Deputy Prime Minister for taking the time to meet, Australian Education Minister Jason Clare extended his deepest condolences for the loss of life and property caused by recent storms and floods in Vietnam.
Minister Jason Clare stated that cooperation in education and training between Vietnam and Australia has a long tradition. Educational cooperation is an important pillar in the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. Currently, there are approximately 36,000 Vietnamese students studying in Australia; and around 160,000 Vietnamese are alumni of Australian universities.
Minister Jason Clare said he strongly supports and encourages Australian universities to expand cooperation with Vietnam.
During his working visit to Vietnam, Minister Jason Clare and Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son witnessed the signing of an agreement on Project 89 between the Department of International Cooperation (Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam) and six Australian universities. Minister Jason Clare expressed his hope that this agreement would further promote educational cooperation between the two countries. Australia is ready to support Vietnam in implementing the project to make English a second language in schools.
