On March 3rd, the Chau Thanh District Police ( Kien Giang Province) announced that they are consolidating the case file to impose administrative penalties on HQK (born in 1999, residing in Chau Thanh District) for the act of "Providing false information to competent agencies and organizations".
According to initial information, at approximately 8:00 AM on March 2nd, HQK reported to the Mong Tho B Commune Police Station, Chau Thanh District, Kien Giang Province, that at 2:30 AM the same day, K. was stopped by four unknown young men on two motorcycles (without license plates) who robbed him of an iPhone 13, a gold necklace, an 18k gold ring weighing 6.5 taels, and 8 million VND in the area of the overpass (Rach Gia City bypass) in Phuoc Hoa Hamlet, Mong Tho B Commune.
Upon verification, the Criminal Police force of Chau Thanh District Police and Mong Tho B Commune Police determined that K.'s statement did not match the scene of the incident, so they proceeded with further investigation.
At the police station, K. admitted that, due to owing the bank over 200 million VND and being unable to repay the debt, he came up with the idea of faking a robbery to gain his family's sympathy and get money to pay off the debt. The property he claimed was stolen had already been sold to repay loans from friends.
To make it seem like he had actually been robbed, K. even inflicted minor injuries on his leg before telling his parents and reporting the incident to the police.
