Clarifying information about rice fields smoking and spontaneous combustion in Gia Lai

Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí22/06/2024

On June 22, the People's Committee of Bar Maih commune, Chu Se district, Gia Lai province said that the phenomenon of smoke rising from local rice fields was due to people burning straw to prepare for the crop, causing smoldering fires.

Previously, many people flocked to the field area of Pham Kleo Ngol village (Bar Maih commune) to see the phenomenon of "smoky fields". Some YouTubers came to film clips and commented "doomsday" causing confusion and anxiety for the people.

"The smoking fields" are just because people are burning straw (Photo cut from clip).

Through investigation, the above area is a single-crop rice field. Recently, people often burn grass and straw on the field to prepare the land for the upcoming rainy season. After burning, the fire still smolders with the layer of straw under the ground, which is why there is smoke.

In addition, this field also has a layer of peat (a type of impurity containing a lot of phosphorus) so it is easy to catch fire.

Many curious people flocked here to see the phenomenon of the ground smoking (Photo cut from clip).

According to the leader of the People's Committee of Bar Maih commune, the dry weather combined with people burning grass to clear the fields led to the smoldering fire. This phenomenon is not supernatural or mystical as YouTubers rumored online.

The police have invited some people who posted false clips to work.
