Sentenced for picking up 7 bullets to make lighter jewelry

On November 27, the People's Court of Kien Giang province held a first-instance trial and sentenced defendant Khuu Minh Khoa (28 years old, residing in Thoai Son district, An Giang) to 15 months in prison for illegally possessing military weapons.

According to the indictment, while repairing the chicken coop at his wife's house, Khoa discovered 7 bullets on the ground so he picked them up and put them in a cigarette pack and stored them behind the house.

In early 2023, Khoa applied to be a driver for a family of acquaintances. On the morning of April 23, Khoa drove the car owner to work in Ta Keo Ngon hamlet, Phi Thong commune, Rach Gia city (Kien Giang). When leaving, Khoa brought 7 bullets hidden in the front seat compartment of the car, with the purpose of finding a place to make lighter jewelry.

Upon arrival, Khoa parked his car in an empty lot, sat down to drink coffee and waited for the car owner to gamble. That evening, Rach Gia City Police caught the gambling den red-handed, inspected the car driven by Khoa and discovered 7 bullets in a cigarette pack, so they seized it. The results of the examination showed that the bullets were military weapons.

Khoa was then prosecuted and detained by the Kien Giang Provincial Police Security Investigation Agency until his trial. According to the police, Khoa has a previous conviction for illegal possession of narcotics.
