Vietnamese leaders send condolences to Cambodia after ammunition depot explosion

Upon hearing of the explosion at an ammunition depot belonging to Military Region III in Kampong Speu province, Cambodia on April 27, causing heavy losses in human lives and property, on April 30, Acting President Vo Thi Anh Xuan sent a message of condolences to King Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni; Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent a letter of condolences to Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet.

On the same day, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son sent a message of condolences to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia Sok Chenda Sophea.

Previously, on April 27, the Cambodian army announced that 20 soldiers were killed and many others were injured in an explosion at a military base in Military Region 3, Chbar Morn city, Kampong Speu province.

In this report, two trucks carrying ammunition from Koh Kong province exploded, three weapons depots collapsed, an office building, a residential area in the military zone and 25 civilian houses were damaged, and several other vehicles were severely damaged.

In a statement the same day, Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed “deep shock” upon receiving news of the explosion. He sent condolences to the families of the soldiers and decided to provide $20,000 in aid to each family of the deceased soldier and $5,000 to each injured soldier.

Prime Minister Hun Manet also assigned Defense Minister Tea Seiha and Commander-in-Chief of the Cambodian Armed Forces Vong Pisey to organize a suitable funeral for the deceased soldiers, with all expenses covered by the government.
