The National Political Publishing House has just published the third edition of the book series "Military History of Vietnam" by the Institute of Military History, aiming to continue disseminating knowledge of the nation's military history to all levels of society and international friends.

This book series is the result of 20 years of research and compilation, with the active cooperation of leading agencies and researchers in the field of history in Vietnam, and the efforts of the research staff of the Institute of Military History.
This is considered a major contemporary historical work, reconstructing all of the nation's military activities in wars against invaders and in defending the homeland, including the expansionist efforts of our ancestors and civil wars from the time of the Hung Kings and An Duong King to the present day.
With 14 volumes, the "Military History of Vietnam" series is considered a major contemporary history, reconstructing the great military history of our nation in the struggles against invasion and in defending the homeland.
The series consists of 14 volumes, with the main contents of each volume as follows:
Vietnamese Military History. Volume 1: The Early Stages of National Defense. The Hung Kings - An Duong Vuong Era, covers the military activities of the ancient Vietnamese people during the early period of Vietnamese military history: the Hung Kings - An Duong Vuong era.
Vietnamese Military History. Volume 2: The Struggle for Independence and Self-Reliance (from 179 BC to 938 AD), is the military history of the nation during the period of Northern domination and resistance against Northern domination, from after the defeat of An Duong Vuong to the victory at Bach Dang (938).
Vietnamese Military History, Volume 3: The Ngo - Dinh - Early Le - Ly Dynasties (939-1225), covers the entire military history of the early period of independence, the 10th - 12th centuries, from the Ngo Dynasty to the Ly Dynasty; including the suppression of rebellions by King Dinh and the history of the two resistance wars against the Song Dynasty led by Le Hoan and Ly Thuong Kiet.
Vietnamese Military History, Volume 4: Military Activities during the Tran Dynasty (13th-14th centuries), is the military history of a glorious period in the nation's history, featuring progressive strategies for national defense, military achievements, heroic victories of the Vietnamese people in three wars against the Yuan-Mongol invaders, and military thought during this historical period.
Vietnamese Military History. Volume 5: Military Activities during the Ho and Early Le Dynasties (15th Century), covers the entire military history of the nation from the Ho to the Early Le Dynasties (15th century), including the history of the resistance war against the Ming during the Ho Dynasty, the uprisings and wars of national liberation in the early 15th century, and issues of national defense and military affairs during the Early Le Dynasty.
Vietnamese Military History, Volume 6: Military Activities from 1527 to 1771, is the military history of the nation for nearly three centuries, from the beginning of the 16th century to before the Tay Son Rebellion. It includes military activities during the period when feudal factions emerged, with wars for power and peasant uprisings against feudalism in our country.
Vietnamese Military History. Volume 7: Military Activities during the Tay Son Dynasty (1771-1802), depicting the entire military career of the Tay Son-Nguyen Hue in defeating both internal and external enemies, including the Tay Son peasant uprising and the two resistance wars against Siam (1784-1785) and against the Qing Dynasty (1788-1789).
Vietnamese Military History. Volume 8: Military Activities from 1802 to 1896, explaining the military history of the period from the beginning of the 19th century to 1896, that is, from the establishment of the Nguyen Dynasty to the failure of the Can Vuong movement. This period's military history includes military activities under the Nguyen Dynasty and the anti-colonial movement against the French invasion in the latter half of the 19th century in Vietnam.
Vietnamese Military History. Volume 9: Military Activities from 1897 to the August Revolution 1945, encompassing the nation's military activities from the period when the French colonialists began exploiting the colony in our country (1897) to the August Revolution 1945, including anti-imperialist and anti-feudal movements, the emergence of Ho Chi Minh's military thought, the process of building forces and armed struggle under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam leading to the brilliant victory of the August Revolution.
Vietnamese Military History. Volume 10: The Resistance War Against French Colonialism (1945-1954), covers military history from after the August Revolution, the period of nationwide resistance against the French (1945-1954), including Ho Chi Minh's military thought and the Party's military line on conducting people's war against aggression, building the people's armed forces, the maturation of the Vietnamese People's Army, the stages of development and military art in our nation's sacred resistance war.
Vietnamese Military History. Volume 11: The War of Resistance against the US for National Salvation (1954-1975), presents the origins and progress of the people's war for national liberation and defense under the leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, the brilliant developments of modern Vietnamese military art, the glorious victories of our army and people, the causes of victory, and the historical lessons of the war of resistance against the US for national salvation.
Vietnamese Military History. Volume 12: Factors Contributing to Vietnam's Victory over the US. Based on the developments of the resistance war against the US, Volume 12 will summarize and explain prominent military issues, such as the process of building the people's armed forces, military weapons and technology, building the war rear, military ideology and strategy, methods of warfare, and Vietnamese military art during this period.
Vietnamese Military History. Volume 13: The Period of National Construction and Defense (1975-2000), covers the military activities of our army and people from the great victory of Spring 1975 to 2000, including the war to defend the Fatherland on the southwestern and northern borders, some issues of national defense and security, and the process of building the people's armed forces in the cause of reform, along with military activities aimed at protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Vietnamese Military History. Volume 14: General Overview. Based on the practical military activities of our nation from ancient times to the present, this volume summarizes the major characteristics of Vietnamese military history in all areas of military organization and operation, drawing out the laws of military history, military viewpoints and ideologies, lessons (including both successful and unsuccessful lessons), and the foundations and sources of Vietnamese military strength in the history of uprisings and wars against foreign invaders.
Recreating the historical process of thousands of years of nation-building and defense is no simple task, but with a spirit of respect for the truth and a sense of responsibility towards history, the team of authors has reflected relatively comprehensively and profoundly the entire military activity of the nation.
At the same time, it highlights some key events, assesses the main strengths and weaknesses, analyzes and clarifies the origins of the war, the causes of victory, the lessons learned, the successes and failures throughout each period of history, in order to help readers understand and have a correct and scientific view of the glorious history of our nation.
