The 33rd SEA Games volleyball competition kicked off on December 10 at Huamark Gymnasium (Kapi, Bangkok), with exciting matches between the female hitters. The women’s volleyball competition has two groups, with Vietnam in Group B, facing Myanmar, Malaysia and Indonesia. Group A has host Thailand, Singapore and the Philippines.

The 33rd SEA Games volleyball event started on December 10 at Huamark Stadium (Kapi State, Bangkok), which is nearly 60 years old (since 1966).

Vietnam women's volleyball team aims to be the top of the table
According to the schedule announced by the organizers on the SEA Games 33 homepage, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team will meet Myanmar in the first match at 3:00 p.m. on December 10, then face Malaysia (12:30 p.m. on December 11), and Indonesia (7:00 p.m. on December 12). With key players in their prime such as Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, Doan Thi Lam Oanh, Nguyen Khanh Dang, Tran Thi Bich Thuy... the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is expected to overthrow Thailand to win the first gold medal at the SEA Games. Notably, the number 1 hitter Tran Thi Thanh Thuy has now regained her peak form like before her injury.
The head coach of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team affirmed that the goal is to win first place in Group B. On the other side, the Thai women's volleyball team is said to have no difficulty in passing the group stage with first place in Group A.

According to the competition format, the first and second place teams in each group will qualify for the semi-finals (first place A vs. second place B, first place B vs. second place A), taking place on December 14. The final match and the bronze medal match will take place on December 15. In fact, the possibility of Vietnam and Thailand clashing in the women's volleyball final is very likely.
Vietnam men's volleyball team in the same group with Thailand
In men's volleyball, Vietnam is in Group A with Thailand, Laos, and Singapore. According to the schedule, Nguyen Ngoc Thuan and his teammates will meet Laos in the opening match at 3 p.m. on December 13, then meet Singapore (5:30 p.m. on December 14) and Thailand (5:30 p.m. on December 16). The teams ranked first and second in the group will qualify for the semi-finals on December 18. The final match and the bronze medal match will take place on December 19.
