Regarding export figures, according to statistics from the Vietnam Pepper Association (VPA), Vietnam's star anise exports in June reached 1,548 tons, with a value of 6.7 million USD, a decrease of 0.8% compared to the previous month. Prosi Thang Long was the largest exporter in the month, accounting for 13.8% with 213 tons.

In the first six months of this year, Vietnam exported 7,023 tons of star anise, with a total export value of 34.2 million USD. Compared to the same period in 2023, the export volume decreased by 5.6%, and the export value decreased by 25.3%. India was the largest export market for Vietnamese star anise with 4,410 tons, accounting for 63% of Vietnam's total importers.

Star anise is also one of the premium spices that famous chefs always favor using in their dishes. Using star anise skillfully in cooking can elevate the flavor to a whole new level.

When pure star anise is steeped in alcohol, it helps treat ailments such as colds, headaches, stomachaches, digestive problems, and bone and joint diseases. Additionally, star anise is effective in treating fungal skin infections, scabies, reducing pain, bruising, coughs, and phlegm, among many other medicinal uses. Furthermore, star anise essential oil is a valuable cosmetic ingredient used in the beauty industry.

According to statistics from the World Spice Organization, Vietnam ranks second globally in star anise production. With star anise, Vietnam is a potential supplier to the global spice and flavor market – valued at US$21.3 billion in 2021 and projected to increase to US$27.4 billion by 2026.

Notably, star anise trees are found almost exclusively in Vietnam and China, where they can be produced in large quantities thanks to favorable conditions. Star anise trees begin to yield fruit from the fourth year, however, it takes about 16 years to harvest two crops per year, making this already rare tree even more valuable. The spring harvest is concentrated in February and March; the autumn harvest is in September and October.

Furthermore, Vietnam leads the world in the production and export of black pepper, ranks number one in the world for cinnamon exports, and other spices such as chili peppers, cloves, ginger, and cardamom also hold significant positions. The import markets for Vietnamese spices are also increasingly diverse, including the US, EU, China, India, and the Middle East.
