Technical staff of Feager Vietnam Company collect data on rice production to create carbon certificates in Nam Giang commune (Tho Xuan).
In the spring crop of 2025, Thanh Hoa Agricultural Institute cooperated with Feager Vietnam Company to conduct an experiment to verify the amount of gas emissions in rice production, applying the alternate wetting and drying (AWD) method with an area of 4,000m2. This is a model of applying digital technology to production. In particular, the application of the Internet of Things (IoT) allows units to monitor in real time factors such as water level, soil moisture and gas emissions in rice production. IoT sensors combined with big data analysis and artificial intelligence (AI) help optimize irrigation, fertilization and weather forecasting processes, thereby reducing resource waste and emissions, thereby reducing 20-30% of irrigation water, increasing productivity by 5-10% compared to conventional production.
Currently, the province has completed the process and applied more than 6,900 hectares of smart rice production adapting to climate change in Yen Dinh and Thieu Hoa districts; 1,400 hectares of vegetables of all kinds; applied greenhouse and membrane house technology to produce vegetables, fruits and flowers on over 200 hectares, of which hydroponic technology is applied on 2,000 square meters. The whole province has more than 3,600 hectares of cultivated area applying water-saving irrigation technology, applied on fruit trees, sugarcane, vegetables in membrane houses and net houses. Of which, irrigation using Israeli technology accounts for nearly 64% of the area, crop productivity increased by 20 - 40% compared to traditional farming... In addition, in the province, a number of organizations and individuals actively invest in implementing production activities to reduce greenhouse emissions. Typically, the University of Science and Technology is implementing the project "Digitizing greenhouse gas absorption and emission index and carbon farming activities in agriculture". Lam Son Sugarcane Joint Stock Company (Lasuco) and two Japanese partners, Idemitsu Kosan Company and Sagri Company, signed a contract to implement a carbon emission reduction project applied to the environmental regeneration agricultural model on the company's raw sugarcane growing area. Dai Thanh Joint Stock Company cooperates with cooperatives in Yen Dinh, Thieu Hoa, Nga Son districts... to provide pesticide spraying services for rice using drones and rice seeds.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Truong, General Director of Dai Thanh Joint Stock Company, said: In order to improve production efficiency and develop technology fields, the company is implementing a model of applying the NX510 navigation device installed on conventional agricultural machines such as plows, transplanters, combine harvesters... programmed according to the terrain of the operating area. After installing the device, these agricultural machines will automatically control according to the preset programming without the need for a driver. With the current development trend of 4.0 agriculture, the use of automatic technology in production is inevitable, helping farmers reduce labor, reduce seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and limit pests in the fields. At the same time, it reduces time, speeds up production progress during peak times, reduces costs, and increases income for farmers.
In recent times, with the active application of modern processes from production, harvesting, preservation, to transportation and processing of agricultural products, the rate of mechanization in production has been increasing. In particular, the rate of mechanization in rice cultivation in the land preparation stage reached 95%, planting 23%, harvesting 75%, and transportation 82%. For corn, land preparation reached 89%, planting 9%, harvesting 14%, and transportation 80%; for sugarcane, land preparation reached 99%, planting 21%, harvesting 23%, and transportation 95%; for other crops, land preparation reached 80%, and transportation 64%...
With the strong development of technology, it has created a favorable environment for people, businesses, and cooperatives in the area to invest in applications to improve the efficiency, quality, and output of agricultural products. Hopefully, the technology fields will continue to be replicated in the province, so that the province's agricultural sector can develop more modernly and sustainably.
