"5,000 Steps to Happiness" - a walking event for cancer patients in Vietnam - was recently organized by the Salt Cancer Initiative (SCI) in collaboration with Nestlé Health Science to spread the message "You don't have to fight cancer alone."

"5,000 Steps to Happiness" with the participation of doctors and experts.

With the theme "Happy K," the 2024 Vietnam Cancer Walk aims to connect over 1,500 cancer patients, their families, and the community to boost morale, provide positive energy, and help them overcome difficulties together. Cancer is often known by the name K, such as thyroid cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, etc. Therefore, when the letter K is mentioned, the first thought of patients and society is often about a terrible disease carrying sadness and negativity. To change that perception, the Salt Cancer Initiative hopes to offer a more optimistic perspective, encouraging the community to open their hearts to embrace other happy Ks, such as Memories, Connections, Expectations, Aspirations, Health, etc., or Ks associated with meaningful images, important and beautiful memories not only for patients but also for healthy people who are walking alongside them. With the theme “Happy K,” the Salt Cancer Initiative aims to convey the message that happiness is a journey we experience together, not a destination. With the support of Nestlé Health Science, in addition to the walk, the Salt Cancer Initiative organized a nutrition workshop led by Professor Dr. Le Thi Huong, former Director of the Institute of Preventive Medicine and Public Health Training, Hanoi Medical University. At the workshop, Professor Dr. Le Thi Huong shared valuable knowledge about nutrition, exercise, and holistic health care for cancer patients, emphasizing: “Nutrition plays a crucial role in cancer treatment because it not only supports treatment but also improves the quality of life for patients. Proper nutrition helps patients face treatment strongly and allows them to experience moments of happiness in life.”
