Russia should be part of the European security system; supports ending the conflict in Ukraine

“ We should not create illusions: Russia is different, its system and society are not European ,” Mr. Orban said in an interview with German media group Funke.

According to Mr. Orban, the Russian system is supposed to be based on military force, while the European system is “free”.

“ But Russia can and should be part of the European security system ,” the Hungarian Prime Minister stressed.

Also in the interview, Prime Minister Orban said the US should propose an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine.

“ We should stop acting in a tense manner on the front. We need space to act in order to find a path to peace that is acceptable to both sides and to Europe, ” Mr Orban said.

“ I am not interested in the interests of Ukraine or Russia; I want the conflict to end and a ceasefire to be established first. The US president should take the initiative for a ceasefire. He is the only one who can make two decisive calls – to Kiev and Moscow, ” the Hungarian leader said.

Hungary supports ending the conflict in Ukraine

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said Hungary continues to oppose the European Union's allocation of additional funds for military assistance to Ukraine.

“Another battle between supporters of war and supporters of peace” will take place in Ukraine, the Hungarian Foreign Minister noted.

In addition, Mr. Szijjarto also spoke about the plans of EU leaders: “ The West wants to announce the allocation of billions of euros to provide weapons to Ukraine. If one-tenth of the money was used to consolidate peace, there would be far fewer deaths and much less destruction .”
