According to RT, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated on December 8th that the new US National Security Strategy could lay the groundwork for joint cooperation between Moscow and Washington. However, some provisions of the document need clarification.
Zakharova said that the revised security strategy announced last week by the Trump administration marks a major shift from 2022 and reflects a reconsideration of America's hegemonic claims. She added that time will tell how fully the US fulfills that commitment.

"Some provisions related to Ukraine could lay the foundation for continued 'constructive' efforts between Russia and the United States towards a solution," Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, noting that the split between the United States and the European Union (EU) was culminating in Europe's efforts to sabotage President Trump's peace initiative.
Ms. Zakharova also noted that the document acknowledged previous "grave miscalculations" when placing "a false and destructive silver line on globalism," calling for "an end to the perception of NATO as an ever-expanding alliance" and "the prevention of such a reality."
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman, this is the first time the US security strategy questions NATO's "expansionist" moves even though the bloc has not committed to stopping expansion.
Russia believes NATO expansion is the root cause of the Ukraine conflict, which Moscow sees as a Western proxy war.
The strategy does not call for a systematic “containment” of Russia or increased economic pressure. On arms control, Zakharova said the strategy does not clarify Washington’s strategic position after the New START treaty expires, including future limits on nuclear arsenals. She said the wording of the US “Golden Dome” missile defense concept was vague and said Moscow was still waiting for an explanation.
