According to Reuters, Russia affirmed its desire to finalize a comprehensive package of documents aimed at ensuring a lasting and sustainable peace agreement in Ukraine, along with security commitments for all parties involved.
This statement was made by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on December 11th.
Lavrov emphasized that Moscow persistently demands a series of agreements for lasting and sustainable peace, with security guarantees for all countries involved.
The Russian Foreign Minister stated that exchanges between Moscow and US President Donald Trump and his team focused precisely on finding a lasting solution to address the root causes of this crisis.
Lavrov expressed the view that President Trump is sincere in his efforts to promote a peace agreement, while the European side is seeking to "sow the seeds" of a new conflict.
The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry continued to emphasize that any agreement must address the "root causes" of the conflict, and not just stop at temporary measures.
Foreign Minister Lavrov also stated that Russia had submitted further proposals on the Ukraine issue to the US, concerning collective security guarantees. Speaking at a roundtable meeting on resolving the Ukraine issue, Lavrov emphasized that Russia currently recognizes “much speculation” and “misinformation” from the West aimed at prolonging the conflict and complicating the search for a diplomatic solution.
Foreign Minister Lavrov welcomed the visit to Moscow this month by US special envoy Steve Witkoff, saying it helped clear up misunderstandings between Russia and the United States.
Earlier, the Kremlin said that Russia and the United States had failed to reach a compromise on a peace agreement to end the conflict in Ukraine after a five-hour meeting at the Kremlin between President Vladimir Putin, Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, President Trump's son-in-law.
Previously, according to Sputnik , on December 3rd... Presidential aide Yury Ushakov said that Russia is conducting all negotiations on ending the conflict in Ukraine solely with the United States.
Mr. Ushakov also noted that all aspects of a future settlement agreement, as well as international recognition of such an agreement, are currently within the framework of dialogue between Moscow and Washington.
He said the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff on December 2nd was "substantive" and "positive," even though the two sides did not reach a compromise.
The official added that Russia had publicly presented its position on the peace proposals put forward by the U.S. He asserted that the progress of the Russian military on the battlefield had influenced the nature and tone of the exchange.
At the meeting, the US delegation emphasized that the US would make every effort to reach a lasting settlement agreement in Ukraine. Washington confirmed its willingness to take Russia's concerns into account during the settlement process.
The December 2nd discussion between President Putin and US representatives at the Kremlin lasted more than five hours. This consultation took place shortly after the US-Ukraine consultations on the 28-point peace plan proposed by Washington.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said yesterday: "President Putin has accepted some of the US proposals for ending the conflict in Ukraine, but has also rejected some. He is ready to meet with US negotiators several times until a suitable agreement is reached."
Peskov emphasized that this was the first direct exchange of views between Russia and the United States, and therefore the inability to reach a consensus was "completely normal when seeking a compromise." Peskov also expressed hope that the US side would adhere to the principle of silence in negotiations to resolve the conflict.
For his part, US President Donald Trump assessed the discussions of the US delegation at the Kremlin as successful. He said that Russia wanted to end the war.
He further noted that Ukraine should agree to a settlement to end the conflict sooner, as the current situation is largely turning against them.
