Mr. Le Binh was born in 1927, in Thanh Chuong ( Nghe An ), his whole life was devoted to the Revolution.
In 1945, he participated in seizing power in his hometown Thanh Chuong, Nghe An from the Japanese and French. Four years later, he volunteered to join the National Guard, becoming a soldier of the 57th Regiment, 304th Division.
After that, the soldier from Nghe An participated in the Dien Bien Phu liberation campaign (1954). In October 1954, he and his unit returned to liberate and take over the capital.
A year later, Mr. Binh was selected to become a soldier of Regiment 600, Guard Command, Ministry of Public Security, with the task of protecting the Party and President Ho Chi Minh.
Mr. Le Binh spent many years as a bodyguard for President Ho Chi Minh.
In 1958, Mr. Le Binh was awarded the First Class Victory Medal by General Vo Nguyen Giap.
In March 1963, he was awarded the Glorious Soldier Medal, 3rd class, by President Ho Chi Minh for his service in the Vietnam People's Army.
In 1985, he was awarded the First Class Resistance Medal.
Mr. Le Ngoc Thuong, the eldest son of Mr. Le Binh, said that for the past few months, he has been looking forward to directly watching the parade at Ba Dinh Square.
"My father has been involved in the revolution all his life, so he doesn't want to miss this parade. These past few days, he has been sitting in front of the TV watching programs related to the parade, counting the days until the grand ceremony," said Mr. Thuong.
Although worried about his health, his children and grandchildren prepared together to satisfy him.
A month ago, Mr. Le Ha - the second son of Mr. Le Binh took his father to see a doctor and get a health consultation to prepare carefully.
After careful preparation, at 4am on August 30, Mr. Le Binh was taken by his children and grandchildren to the parade rehearsal.
The image of a 98-year-old man with white hair sitting and watching the parade rehearsal was reported by the press and moved many people.
On August 31, Mr. Binh received an invitation from the General Secretary's Office to attend the September 2 ceremony at Ba Dinh Square.
Sharing with reporters on the afternoon of August 31, Mr. Binh said that at the age of 98, this is probably his last chance to witness a large-scale military parade, a historic moment for the country.
