Foreign fruits are getting cheaper, many popular types are only 30,000 - 40,000 VND/kg; high-end types are also discounted by 50 - 60%... Although prices have decreased, fruit import turnover is still increasing, showing that consumption has increased sharply.

In the Ho Chi Minh City market, imported fruits have never been cheaper than they are now. Many high-end products such as American cherries are now only 200,000 - 300,000 VND/kg on average, down 50 - 60% compared to previous years. Korean peony grapes are also only 350,000 - 400,000 VND/bunch.

According to the American Cherry Association in Vietnam, this year's cherry harvest has been good, so output has increased sharply, and goods are shipped to Vietnam by sea instead of by air as before. Large output and sharply reduced costs are the reasons why the price of American cherries in Vietnam is much cheaper than in previous years. Vietnam mainly imports cherries from Washington and California, this year the total output of these two states is about 30 million boxes, nearly double that of last year.

Not only are the prices cheap, US agricultural exporters also regularly organize large promotional and discount programs. Specifically, in the first days of August, the Department of Foreign Agriculture under the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) organized the program "Discover American Delicacies" to introduce many types of American specialty foods and drinks to Vietnamese consumers . In this program, many types of American specialty fruits such as cherries, blueberries, grapes... are sold at attractive promotional prices.

Fruits from the EU, Japan, South Korea, Australia, etc. have also decreased sharply in recent years due to Vietnam's deep participation in free trade agreements (FTAs) with these countries, so import taxes have decreased. On the other hand, this year, the economy is difficult, consumers everywhere are cutting spending, so exporters are also stepping up promotional programs to stimulate purchasing power.

HUMANITY

According to some fruit and vegetable importers, the prices of most foreign fruits have decreased by 20-30% compared to last year. However, statistics from the General Department of Customs show that the import turnover of fruits and vegetables in the past 8 months still reached 1.27 billion USD, up 1% compared to the same period last year. The US, along with New Zealand, India, and South Korea, are the countries with increased fruit and vegetable export turnover to Vietnam compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, China is the leading supplier of foreign fruits and vegetables in the Vietnamese market, accounting for more than 35% of the market share. The US is second with nearly 18% and Australia is third with 8%.
