Accumulated from the beginning of 2025 to now, the whole province has recorded more than 12,800 cases of dengue fever, an increase of nearly 8,000 cases compared to the same period last year.

According to records at some hospitals in the province, the number of severe dengue fever cases is increasing due to people being hospitalized late or receiving improper treatment. Both adults and children are at risk of dengue shock syndrome, which can be life-threatening if not treated promptly.

Specialist Doctor I Nguyen Thi Tram, Department of Pediatrics - Neonatology, Shing Mark University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, said: The hospital has just received and successfully treated a 12-year-old boy (Phuoc Tan ward, Dong Nai province) with dengue shock.

The patient was admitted to the hospital with symptoms of high fever that was difficult to reduce and vomiting. Blood tests showed that the patient was positive for dengue virus causing dengue fever, low platelets, increased blood concentration and increased inflammatory reaction in the blood. The patient was treated with fever reduction, fluid replacement, symptomatic support, and antibiotics to treat secondary bacterial infections. However, the patient's illness gradually worsened. The child was tired, had poor appetite, abdominal pain, nausea, rapid pulse, low blood pressure, little urine, and skin rash. Blood tests showed a gradual decrease in platelets, a rapid increase in blood concentration, and increased liver enzymes.

The patient was then continuously monitored, given anti-shock fluids, and treated according to the protocol. Two days later, his condition gradually improved and he has now been discharged from the hospital.

To avoid late hospitalization, doctors recommend that people with the following warning signs should quickly go to the hospital for examination and treatment. These are continuous high fever, fever-reducing medicine does not reduce the fever or only reduces the fever for a very short time and then the fever increases again. Next is fatigue, restlessness, lethargy, lethargy, loss of appetite, constant thirst. Or accompanied by abdominal pain, vomiting, bleeding gums, nosebleeds, rapid breathing...

At the hospital, patients will have a blood test to detect whether they are positive for the dengue virus or not. From there, there will be a treatment plan appropriate to each patient's condition.

Peace
