Previously, according to the school year plan approved by the People's Committee of Nghe An province, from August 25, students across Nghe An province will start going to school, preparing for the new school year 2025 - 2026.
However, it is forecasted that on August 25, storm Kajiki will make landfall in the area from Nghe An to Quang Tri with very strong intensity, then move deep into Central Laos, gradually weakening into a tropical depression.
From the night of August 24 to the end of August 26, it is forecasted that Nghe An province will experience heavy to very heavy rain with a common rainfall of 150 - 300mm, locally over 500mm. Warning of the risk of heavy rain (>200mm/3 hours).
Faced with this reality, many schools in the province have announced a postponement of the school opening date. Specifically, at Que Phong High School, to ensure absolute safety for students, the school has postponed the school opening date tomorrow morning (August 25) and will announce the specific school opening date after the storm passes and the situation stabilizes again.

In Nhon Mai commune, which was recently severely affected by Typhoon Wipha, Nhon Mai Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities also postponed its school opening date. Previously, the school announced the school opening date for August 25 and organized boarding for more than 200 students from remote villages. With the decision to postpone the school opening date, the Board of Directors of Nhon Mai Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities asked the Management Boards of the villages and hamlets to inform parents and students.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tan - Principal of the school said: Our school is located quite high up so it is quite safe to organize for students to return to school. However, due to the characteristics of the mountainous commune, the whole school only has two central villages that are easy to travel to. The remaining students from 10 other villages go to school through hills, rivers and streams, so there are many potential risks when there is heavy rain. In the current context, ensuring student safety is the school's top priority.
Similarly, Thong Thu 1 Primary School (Thong Thu Commune, Nghe An) also announced a temporary postponement of the school opening date to ensure student safety. The new school opening date will be announced by the school after the weather stabilizes. A month ago, affected by the circulation of storm Wipha, Thong Thu Commune had heavy rains causing flooding and landslides, causing severe damage to many students' families.

In addition to the highland communes, some schools in coastal communes such as Dien Ngoc Primary School, Dien Chau Town Primary School (Dien Chau Commune); Quynh Lien Secondary School, Quynh Phuong A Primary School (Quynh Mai Ward) also informed parents and students to postpone the school opening. Schools in the plains and urban areas also adjusted the school opening plan such as Nguyen Duy Trinh High School, Huynh Thuc Khang High School, Nghe An Province Ethnic Minority High School. Some schools have planned to postpone the opening date to August 27.
Mr. Nguyen Trong Hoan - Chief of Office of Nghe An Department of Education and Training said: According to the industry's plan, the school return schedule for Nghe An students will start from August 25. However, in adverse weather conditions, to ensure absolute safety for teachers, students and parents, the Department recommends that local leaders and schools adjust the school return schedule based on the actual situation.
