Many streets in Hanoi were severely flooded after a heavy rain that lasted for nearly two hours this afternoon.
By 2:30 PM, flooding was still occurring on Nguyen Trai Street (the section near the University of Social Sciences and Humanities). Observations showed that the lane designated for non-motorized vehicles was flooded to a depth of approximately 30cm, and the median strip had been pushed into the middle of the road, obstructing traffic.
According to reports, flooding at the Quan Nhan - Chinh Kinh intersection (Thanh Xuan district) lasted for more than an hour. The water level reached approximately 40cm, causing traffic difficulties.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting warns that over the next three hours, Hanoi's inner city and surrounding areas will continue to experience moderate to heavy rain, with rainfall amounts generally ranging from 20-50mm, and exceeding 60mm in some places.
This rainfall is likely to cause flooding on many inner-city streets, with water levels ranging from 0.1m to 0.4m. Traffic on flooded streets will be affected, making movement difficult and potentially causing localized congestion. Thunderstorms may also bring tornadoes, lightning, and strong gusts of wind.
