Many streets of Hanoi are flooded in 'golden rain'

Many streets in Hanoi were heavily flooded after a heavy rain that lasted nearly 2 hours this afternoon.

About 300m of Nguyen Tuan street was submerged in water.

Water flooded inside so even though it was noon, many shops on Nguyen Tuan street had to close.

Many people had to grope their way across the street.

Motorbike flooded, broken down in the middle of Nguyen Tuan street.

Many cars stalled after crossing the 'sea of water' on Nguyen Tuan street.

The streets were heavily flooded, many houses on Nguyen Huy Tuong street had to "build dams" to prevent water and garbage from overflowing.

Flooded on Nguyen Trai Street

As of 2:30 p.m., flooding on Nguyen Trai Street (the section passing the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) was still occurring. According to records, the road section for non-motorized vehicles was flooded about 30cm deep, and the median strip here was pushed into the middle of the road by water, obstructing traffic.

Many people took off their shoes and sandals to cross this flooded area.

Workers of Hanoi Drainage Enterprise were on duty to drain water and reduce flooding.

A section of the median strip was washed out into the middle of the road.

Also according to records, at the Quan Nhan - Chinh Kinh intersection (Thanh Xuan), flooding lasted for more than 1 hour. The amount of water was about 40cm, making traffic difficult.

The car died, people were forced to walk.

Flooding on Bui Xuong Trach Street

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting warns that in the next 3 hours, Hanoi's inner city and surrounding areas will continue to have moderate to heavy rain with rainfall ranging from 20-50mm, in some places over 60mm.

This rain is likely to cause flooding of many inner-city streets from 0.1m to 0.4m. Vehicles participating in traffic on flooded streets will be affected, making it difficult to move, possibly causing local congestion. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind.
