Huge explosion at sauna in South Korea, dozens injured

At least 28 people were injured in a gas explosion at a sauna in Yangju, South Korea. 72 people were evacuated safely.

According to The Chosun, the gas explosion occurred at a sauna in Jangheung-myeon, Yangju city, Gyeonggi province.

The North Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Agency and Yangju Fire Department said they received an emergency call at around 10:17 a.m. on September 27 saying, "A gas cylinder exploded inside a sauna, injuring multiple people."

Firefighters quickly dispatched 42 personnel and 17 pieces of equipment to the scene to carry out rescue work.

The accident left at least 28 people injured, three of whom were reported in serious condition, including a 60-year-old employee and two guests in their 50s and 70s. The remaining 25 people suffered minor injuries. It is understood that 72 people, including employees and customers, were safely evacuated.

Authorities are opening an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
