Russia launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine

Russia launched a rare large-scale air attack, launching a massive amount of UAVs and missiles at Ukraine's military infrastructure, marking a new escalation on the long-range front.

In the early morning of December 6, Ukraine suffered one of the most intense air raids of the year. Russia simultaneously launched cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and suicide UAVs at high density across many provinces. The scale of the target shows that the campaign was well prepared, aimed directly at military infrastructure, energy, and logistics to exhaust Kiev's defense in depth capability.

The series of attacks began between 00:40 and 01:40, starting with the arrival of the Geran-2 UAV in Chernihiv. A few minutes later, Fastiv was attacked at the railway station and the locomotive depot. According to the heat signature on the FIRMS map, a large fire was also detected near Kiev, suspected to be related to the Terra-2000 system and the PS 110/10 Novi Petrivtsi station, key points in the Ukrainian logistics chain.

Following that, from 01:30 to 02:10, the wave of UAVs and Iskanders expanded to Zlatopol (Kharkiv), Novi Petrivtsi and the Zaporizhzhia coastal area. The simultaneous deployment of Geran UAVs and ballistic missiles by Russia shows its intention to penetrate low- and medium-level air defenses, creating double pressure on the Ukrainian radar network.

The breakthrough of the battle came at 02:35, when the Kinzhal hypersonic missile hit the Starokostiantyniv airport - the most important storage and transfer point of weapons in Ukraine. Moscow's choice of Kinzhal, a weapon that is only used for high-priority targets, shows the special strategic value of this base in the entire operational structure of Kiev.

In just 10 minutes, from 02:40 to 02:50, almost the entire Dnipropetrovsk region was hit simultaneously. Many targets were hit twice in a row, clearly demonstrating the “preemptive strike - follow-up strike” tactic that forced the Ukrainian air defense to expend interceptor ammunition, while maintaining the risk of damage if the defense layer weakened even for a few seconds.

From 03:00 to 03:35, fire continued to rain down on Zaporizhzhia, Volnyansk and Berezovka. The most notable event occurred at 03:30, when Kinzhal struck the Kyivska 750 kV substation - a major transmission node for the capital. This was seen as a direct blow to strategic power capacity, which could have a ripple effect on the national system.

After 04:00, Vyshgorod, Globyne, Kaniv and Kremenchuk were attacked one after another, before Ladyzhenskaya (Vinnytsia) became the next target. The main target groups were all related to electricity, hydroelectric and thermal power grids - showing Moscow's clear priority in destroying the energy logistics for the Ukrainian army and defense industry.
8-1.jpg
At dawn 05:15-05:50, Ladyzhenskaya was bombed a second time, demonstrating the intention of complete destruction rather than just disruption. This was a familiar motif in the cyclical attack tactic, locking down the ability to repair and restore, forcing the enemy to expend both technical resources and material reserves.
9-1.jpg
From approximately 06:00 to 07:20, new bursts of explosions occurred in Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia, Lviv, Bila Tserkva, and Shepetivka. By 07:55, explosions were still heard in Chernihiv and Cherkasy, demonstrating that the operation was not only a rapid, widespread attack but also sustained fire aimed at wearing down Kiev's multi-layered defenses.

The final wave began at 08:00-08:50, when Kalibr and Kh-101 struck Dnipro, Makariv, Dobrotvir, Burshtyn and Bila Tserkva. Several thermal power plants in the western region were affected, significantly reducing the backup power supply - which is an important load-shedding route whenever the southeastern energy infrastructure is damaged.

Ukraine’s Energy Ministry confirmed that several power facilities were hit, causing widespread blackouts and rolling blackouts. Ukraine reported that Russia used 704 attack vehicles, including 51 missiles and 653 UAVs, more than 300 of which were Geran-2.
12-1.jpg
This is one of the most powerful attacks in months. The combination of cheap UAVs with hypersonic missiles creates multi-layered pressure, eroding Ukrainian air defenses and signaling a new escalation phase in long-range warfare.
