On the morning of December 7, Vietnamese badminton officially started at the 33rd SEA Games in the women's team event. In this event, Nguyen Thuy Linh and her teammates faced off against a very strong opponent, Malaysia. The competition format included 5 matches: 3 singles and 2 doubles.

Nguyen Thuy Linh is the first Vietnamese badminton athlete to appear on the field at the 33rd SEA Games.

Athlete Nguyen Thuy Linh played her first singles match against Malaysia's number 1 player - Karupathevan Letshanaa (ranked 42nd in the world ). The Vietnamese player was lucky in the first point of the match when she hit the net, leaving her opponent helpless.
In the first set, Thuy Linh started the game better and continuously led. The Vietnamese female player showed her ability to control the shuttlecock and exploit her backhand well, making the Malaysian player struggle to defend. However, Karupathevan Letshanaa also followed closely. Thuy Linh passed her many times, but Letshanaa immediately shortened or equalized the score.
The coaching staff's instructions helped Thuy Linh overwhelmingly win against her opponent in game 2.

From the score of 13/13, Letshanaa started to break through in terms of points. The Malaysian player showed good jumping ability, powerful and tricky smashes. Letshanaa increased the gap to 15/13, 17/14... before defeating Nguyen Thuy Linh in game 1 with a score of 21/15.

In the second set, Thuy Linh was also the one who "opened the account" first, but was quickly overtaken by Letshanaa, leading 3/1. When the score was 5/5, the Vietnamese player had an impressive series of points and created a big turning point in the match. The athlete born in 1997 created a gap of 5 points, leading 10-5. Since then, Thuy Linh also showed complete dominance in terms of game position.
The scores were 12/6, 16/8… then 21/10. Thuy Linh won convincingly in game 2, thereby leveling the score to 1-1.
Duel
Karupathevan Letshanaa is the highest-ranked Malaysian tennis player in the world women's singles rankings.

Despite losing the pivotal game, Karupathevan Letshanaa still managed to regain her composure and play with excitement in game 3. The Malaysian player took the lead 10/6, then 12/7. Thuy Linh tried to narrow the gap to 11/12. However, consecutive errors after that caused Thuy Linh to be widened by her opponent, 13/16.
The Vietnamese player played with determination in the final stretch of the match, leveling the scores at 18/18, 19/19. Karupathevan Letshanaa reached 20 first, but Thuy Linh successfully saved the first "match point" to level the score at 20/20. Thuy Linh saved another "match point" (21/21), before winning 23/21.
With that, Nguyen Thuy Linh won 2-1 against Karupathevan Letshanaa. This is the first victory of Vietnamese badminton at SEA Games 33.
