These are the words shared by teacher and history master's graduate Nguyen Khanh Chi, along with a photo of her in her graduation attire standing next to her father. The father, in a suit, with a calm expression, and his daughter looking in the same direction…

But unlike the familiar photos of parents and relatives posing with graduates on graduation day, the father in the picture standing next to Khanh Chi passed away 14 years ago after an accident.
Khanh Chi hails from the mountainous region of Con Cuong, Nghe An province. After graduating from Hanoi Pedagogical University, she stayed in the capital and taught at a high school. In 2023, she earned a master's degree in history from Hanoi Pedagogical University.
Having graduated from middle school, high school, university, and then earned a master's degree, seeing other fathers giving flowers and taking commemorative photos with their children, Chi couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness.
Her father passed away when she was only 13 years old, and Chi grew up under the guidance of her mother – who acted as both mother and father – but her mother was often ill and couldn't be by her side during that difficult time.
Chi's father is tall and burly, with a rugged, intimidating appearance, so many people are intimidated when they first meet him. But beneath that exterior is a warm, sweet, gentle, and generous man…

For Chi, her entire world was condensed into her father. During her childhood, her grandfather took care of her every meal and drink. While her mother was busy working, Chi's breakfast was always prepared by her father, who would wake up early to cook it himself…
She will never forget that day, when her father went out and said, "I'm going now, stay home and look after the house."
Shortly after, the little girl received news that her father had been in an accident and had been discharged from the hospital. Chi, who had a heart condition at the time, fainted upon hearing this. The moment her father was discharged from the hospital was also the moment his daughter had to be rushed to the emergency room…
Chi and her father have never had the chance to take a picture together. Having her father by her side in a photo, especially on important occasions, is something Chi has long wished for and cherished for a long time.

Speaking about the photo of herself in graduation attire standing next to her father, Khanh Chi said that many years ago, while cleaning her sister's room, she found an old photo album. In it, there was a water-damaged photo of her father with her father-in-law.
Chi hugged the photo of her father and sobbed uncontrollably, carefully preserving it as a memento. Fearing the photo would fade over time, Chi contacted a photo restoration company to have it restored for her father.
On her master's graduation day, without any family members by her side, Chi cherished the wish to stand next to her father in that moment. She asked the photo editing team to digitally recreate a photo of her father standing beside her.

"I was a child when my father passed away, and now I'm 27 while he's still 53" (Photo: Provided by the interviewee).
Upon receiving the photo, Chi couldn't hold back her tears. The daughter felt even more sorrow for her father, who had passed away too soon, unable to witness or be by her side during her journey of growing up…
Having built her career alone in the capital with relentless effort, Chi believes that somewhere, her father is still by her side, in her heart, not just in a photograph.
Chi said, as if comforting herself about her father's eternal youth, "I was a child when you passed away, and now I'm 27 and you're still 53. Stay young forever, Dad!"
