(Dan Tri Newspaper) - US President Donald Trump has repeatedly floated the idea of annexing Canada as the 51st state of the United States, and he continues to reaffirm that this idea is serious.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on March 21, US President Donald Trump reiterated his earlier claim that the US subsidizes its northern neighbor hundreds of billions of dollars annually, while also highlighting the serious bilateral trade imbalance between the two countries.
He stated, "The United States has to spend $200 billion in subsidies each year to keep Canada running."
Mr. Trump also shared that the US doesn't need Canadian exports like cars, lumber, and energy.
Following these statements by President Donald Trump, Canada's new Prime Minister Mark Carney firmly denied that Canada would become part of the United States.
After being sworn into office last week, Carney declared: "We will never become part of America in any way or form."
He further asserted that neither Canada's national identity nor its economy could deter Trump from achieving his goals.
He asserted that he would win the trade war with the US, emphasizing that Canada would need to strengthen its economy and seek alternative trading partners.
Last week, Canada imposed a 25% tariff on nearly $30 billion worth of imports from the U.S. in retaliation for similar tariffs imposed by the U.S. President halted plans to impose a 50% tariff after Canada withdrew its plan to increase tariffs by an additional 25% on energy imports from the U.S.
On March 20, Prime Minister Carney emphasized that Ottawa is ready to sit down and discuss the trade war with Washington "when Canada is respected as a sovereign nation."
