Kazakhstan's Ministry of Transport released an investigation report indicating that the Azerbaijan Airlines plane was most likely damaged by the impact of "external objects" before crashing near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan on December 25, 2024.
CBS News, citing a 53-page preliminary report released by the Kazakhstan Ministry of Transport on February 4, reported that the report included images showing numerous holes in the fuselage of the passenger plane.
However, the investigation results did not address the cause behind the Embraer E190AR aircraft of Azerbaijan Airlines, carrying 67 people from Baku (Azerbaijan), which was supposed to be bound for Grozny (Chechnya, Russia), but instead diverted to Kazakhstan before crashing in the suburbs of Aktau, a city in western Kazakhstan.
Numerous holes have been discovered on the wreckage of the plane that crashed in Kazakhstan.
The plane crash killed 38 of the 67 people on board.
According to reports, the pilot informed Grozny air traffic control about the loss of GPS signal, and shortly afterward the aircraft went out of control.

According to the report, the tail section of the aircraft showed numerous signs of damage of various shapes and sizes, and "similar damage was found on the left engine and the left wing of the aircraft."
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has repeatedly accused Russian air defense systems of accidentally shooting down Azerbaijan Airlines Flight 8243.
Initially, Russian officials offered several possible causes for the plane crash, such as a bird strike. Later, Russian President Vladimir Putin apologized for the tragic accident, adding that Russian air defenses were activated at the time to repel a drone attack from Ukraine.
However, to date, no party has claimed responsibility for the plane crash.
The Kremlin said Russia has launched a criminal investigation into the plane crash and has not yet released the results. Kazakhstan is leading the investigation because the plane crashed on its territory.
