Approval of the Intellectual Property Development Program of Can Tho City

(CT) - Can Tho City People's Committee has just issued Decision No. 2724/QD-UBND approving the Intellectual Property Development Program of Can Tho City to 2030.

The 3-star OCOP product Ms. Thao's durian has been supported by the city to register an exclusive trademark.

The program aims to make intellectual property an important tool to improve competitiveness, create an environment to encourage innovation and promote local economic , cultural and social development. At the same time, promote and improve the effectiveness of protection, exploitation and development of intellectual property of enterprises, organizations and individuals in the city; enhance the effectiveness and capacity of intellectual property enforcement, promote the protection of intellectual property rights in the digital environment.

Accordingly, Can Tho City strives for the number of patent applications and protection certificates to increase by an average of 16-18% per year, the commercial exploitation rate to reach 8-10%; the number of plant variety protection applications to increase by an average of 12-14% per year. In addition, at least 60% of key products, services, specialties and products associated with the city's OCOP Program will be supported in registering for protection, managing and developing intellectual property, controlling origin and quality after protection; the number of trademark applications to increase by an average of 8-10% per year...

To achieve the set goals, the program focuses on the following main contents: strengthening intellectual property creation activities, improving the quality of human resources in innovation and intellectual property; promoting registration of intellectual property protection at home and abroad; improving the efficiency of management, exploitation and development of intellectual property; promoting and enhancing the effectiveness of enforcement and combating infringement of intellectual property rights; developing and improving the capacity of intermediary organizations and intellectual property rights holders; forming and creating an intellectual property culture in society.

The City People's Committee assigned the Department of Science and Technology to preside over, manage, organize and implement general activities and scientific and technological tasks under the program; at the same time, it is the focal point agency to contact and approve applications for financial support for intellectual property registration.
