The association has helped 100% of near-poor households escape poverty, achieved a 150% rate of women starting businesses, sponsored 7 orphaned children, and actively contributed to the local efforts to eradicate poverty sustainably.

Over the past period, the Gia Lam Commune Women's Union has always prioritized social welfare and caring for the spiritual well-being of women and children in particularly difficult circumstances.
Typically, the "Godmother" program is a shining example of humanity and profound meaning within the Gia Lam Commune Women's Union. Hoang Thi Thuy Nga, President of the Gia Lam Commune Women's Union, shared that the Union has sponsored seven orphaned children with particularly difficult circumstances, providing each child with a monthly allowance of 500,000 VND. What is particularly commendable is that 100% of the Union's officials voluntarily forgave meeting expenses to use the money to support the children. The "Godmothers" regularly visit and give gifts during Lunar New Year, Children's Day (June 1st), Mid-Autumn Festival, and the start of the new school year. Monthly, the mothers also dedicate time to support the children's studies and maintain regular contact with teachers to keep track of their academic progress.

In addition, women in Gia Lam also actively participate in other social activities. For example, during the Lunar New Year of 2025, the Association donated 135 gifts to 135 members, women, and children in difficult circumstances, totaling 67.5 million VND. The Association also organized visits and presented 90 gifts to families of policy beneficiaries, war invalids, and martyrs, totaling 33.25 million VND; and mobilized members, women, and the public to support those affected by floods and storms.
The Women's Union of Gia Lam commune also maintains meaningful fundraising activities such as "Godmother's Booth," "Godmother's Day," collecting scrap materials, and organizing cultural exchanges to create a stable source of resources to support the children the Union is sponsoring.
For women with disabilities in the commune, the Association focuses on caring for them, mobilizing social resources, and organizing visits and gift-giving to 10 cases, with a total cost of 10.5 million VND.

These activities affirm the Women's Union's deep concern for all segments of society, ensuring that no one is left behind in the overall development process. This is not only a change in economic terms, but also a great source of encouragement, helping women become more confident in their roles as heads of families and contributors to society.
Promoting entrepreneurship and creating jobs for women.
From the beginning of the year, the Women's Union of Gia Lam commune has developed and directed the implementation of 9 plans and 1 work program, organizing emulation movements with 3 tasks and 13 targets. In particular, the Union has identified the central task as maintaining, improving the quality, and expanding effective operational models, especially in the field of supporting women's economic development.
The Association has reviewed, assisted, and proposed specific solutions to the government to help two near-poor households headed by women escape poverty. At the same time, the Association registered to assist 25 disadvantaged households through diverse measures, such as: providing loans, equipping them with knowledge, assisting with labor, supplying livestock, materials, and supporting them with tools and means of production. To date, all 25 disadvantaged households have improved their living standards.
Implementing the "Supporting Hanoi Women's Entrepreneurship" project in 2025, the Gia Lam Commune Women's Union has achieved results exceeding the target. Specifically, the Union has helped 15 women start businesses out of a total of 10 assigned targets, achieving a rate of 150%.
This is the clearest evidence of the effectiveness and sustainability of the support programs implemented by the Gia Lam Commune Women's Union.
The range of startup businesses in the commune is diverse, from restructuring crop and livestock production (growing asparagus, flowers, ornamental plants, and fruit trees) to garment manufacturing, food and beverage businesses, and grocery stores. This demonstrates the ability to grasp the market and flexibility in choosing business models suitable to local conditions and the capabilities of the members. A prime example is the "Phuong Quan Processed Onions" production and business facility owned by Ms. Duong Thi Phuong (Gia Lam commune), with four products achieving OCOP 3-star status (fried onions, dried onions, fried garlic, and french fries). Ms. Phuong's production facility has contributed to creating stable jobs for nearly 20 female workers, with incomes ranging from 7-10 million VND per person per month.

For example, Ms. Vu Thi Hanh in An Dao residential area started her business selling seedlings of various types such as acacia, eucalyptus, mahogany, jackfruit, pomelo, and sapodilla. She is a prime example of the Gia Lam Commune Women's Union actively contributing to the community and spreading the spirit of "excelling in public affairs and managing household responsibilities." Ms. Hanh's nursery provides employment for 8 local workers, with an income of 300,000 VND per person per day. Ms. Hanh also regularly participates in women's association meetings in her residential area, enthusiastically sharing her experience in planting and selling seedlings with other women in the village.
In addition, the Women's Union of Gia Lam commune actively provided advice and job placement services for 150 workers, helping them find employment in local agencies and businesses. This activity has addressed social welfare issues, ensured stable income for workers, especially women, and contributed to reducing the economic burden on families.
One of the key factors contributing to the success of sustainable poverty eradication in Gia Lam is the ability to connect with and manage preferential loan capital. The Gia Lam Women's Union has excellently fulfilled its role as a bridge between its members and the Social Policy Bank. Currently, the Union manages a total outstanding loan balance of 69.2 billion VND. This capital has been disbursed to 977 borrowing households, becoming an important financial leverage for families to develop production and business, and rise out of poverty.
Notably, the loan management and approval process has always been ensured to be targeted correctly and according to procedures, especially with no misappropriation of funds or overdue loans. This achievement demonstrates the responsibility, rigor, and professionalism of the Association's staff, helping to preserve and effectively circulate preferential capital, serving the goal of long-term and sustainable economic development.
Through effective capital management, the Association has built a solid reputation, fostering trust among financial institutions and local authorities, thereby expanding access to capital for its members in the future.
Nguyen Viet Ha, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of Gia Lam commune, highly appreciated the spirit of solidarity and the creative and effective leadership of the Women's Union of the commune. Sustainable poverty eradication is considered one of the most important political tasks that the Gia Lam Women's Union has been focusing on. Currently, women in the commune are becoming a pioneering force in jointly eradicating poverty and creating a comprehensively developed Gia Lam, where all women and children have the opportunity to rise up and build a sustainable, civilized, and happy life.
The Gia Lam Commune Women's Union has also clearly defined its key tasks for 2026, aiming to continue building on achievements and working towards a sustainable future. Ms. Hoang Thi Thuy Nga, President of the Gia Lam Commune Women's Union, affirmed that the Union's action programs focus on implementing the Resolution of the First Gia Lam Commune Party Congress and the Resolution of the Hanoi City Women's Congress for the 2025-2030 term. In 2026 and subsequent years, the Union will continue to extensively implement the emulation movement "Building a loyal, creative, capable, and elegant woman of Hanoi" in conjunction with the campaign "Hanoi women behaving beautifully" and the "5-have, 3-clean family" model.
In particular, the Association will continue to strengthen social welfare work, focusing on activities supporting women with disabilities and the "Godmother" program… The Association is determined to work together with the Party Committee and the government of Gia Lam commune to maintain the achievements of sustainable poverty eradication.
