Winner Le Xuan Manh: 'I have completely fulfilled my grandmother's wish'

Determined to fulfill his late grandmother's last wish, "climber" Le Xuan Manh made a spectacular and courageous comeback to become the champion of the 2023 Road to Olympia competition.

On October 8th, the laurel wreath of the 2023 Road to Olympia competition, along with a prize of $50,000 (approximately 1.2 billion VND), was awarded to Le Xuan Manh , a 12th-grade student from Ham Rong High School in Thanh Hoa province .

Sharing his story of a spectacular comeback to become the champion of the 23rd season of the "Road to Olympia" competition, student Le Xuan Manh humbly stated that victory requires both knowledge and luck. In today's final, Manh possessed both of these elements.

According to Le Xuan Manh, during the four rounds of the competition, the male student never considered the possibility of losing. "Even when I had the lowest score after the first two rounds, I still thought I could 'make up' in the next two rounds. I never thought I had no chance of winning," Manh said. After that, Manh dedicated all his determination to the final two rounds.

After four dramatic rounds of competition, Le Xuan Manh became the champion of the 2023 Road to Olympia competition.

The 2023 champion of the "Road to Olympia" competition said: "My grandmother really liked the 'Road to Olympia' program. She also wished that her grandchildren could participate in the 'Road to Olympia' on television. And, winning today is something I never really thought would happen," Xuan Manh said, adding that today's victory is a gift to everyone who has supported me throughout this time, and also fulfills the wish of my late grandmother.

Addressing his younger counterparts from his hometown, Le Xuan Manh reminded them that the "Road to Olympia" program is a place where students from Thanh Hoa can showcase their talents.

Unable to hide her emotions, Mrs. Vu Thi Huong (Le Xuan Manh's mother) expressed her joy: "I always thought my son would win. I feel proud of him."

Earlier that morning, at the 2023 Road to Olympia final, Le Xuan Manh demonstrated his composure and decisiveness by staging a comeback and winning the prestigious first prize.

Specifically, at the end of the first round - the Warm-up round, Le Xuan Manh only scored 10 points. In the Acceleration round, Manh only achieved 100 points, 65 points behind the leader. In the Final round, this male student chose 3 questions worth 30 points each. In the first two questions, Manh answered the first question correctly but did not answer the second. For the third question, Xuan Manh chose the "hope star" and excellently earned 60 points, moving up to second place with 190 points.

The dramatic turning point of the final round came with the 30-point question posed to male student Nguyen Minh Triet (Quoc Hoc High School for the Gifted, Thua Thien Hue province): "In the poem 'A Tribute to Mr. Nguyen Du ,' the poet To Huu wrote: 'Who among future generations will weep with To Nhu? / In the future, no matter when / The verses of the past, who would have thought they would appear today!' Which two lines of the 'verses of the past' are the author referring to, and in which poem by Nguyen Du?"

Immediately after Nguyen Minh Triet remained silent, Le Xuan Manh responded: these are two lines from the work "Doc Tieu Thanh Ky". That was the decisive answer, helping Manh win.
