Starting in November each year, in the villages and hamlets of western Nghe An province, the poinsettia flowers bloom in full splendor. In recent years, poinsettia plants have become increasingly common along the roads leading to communes and villages throughout the western districts, especially in areas with cold climates and high mountains. (Photo: HT) Poinsettias were first discovered in 1834. Their distinctive and striking colors made them very popular, widely cultivated in many countries, and used to decorate for Christmas and especially for holidays and Tet (Vietnamese New Year). Poinsettias are also known by other names such as: Christmas flower, first-class red, star flower, leaf-on-leaf flower, or leaf-on-leaf flower. Photo: TP Many households grow poinsettias. Photo: HT
