This is the 10th year that the "Ring the Bell for Gender Equality" event has been held globally, and the 6th time Vietnam has participated. The event aims to highlight the crucial role of the private sector in promoting gender equality and empowering women economically towards sustainable business and social development.
To celebrate International Women's Day on March 8th, on the morning of March 6th, 2024, the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council, under the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), in collaboration with the Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX), the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment (UN Women), and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), organized the event "Ringing the Bell for Gender Equality".
This is the 10th year the "Ring the Bell for Gender Equality" campaign has been held globally, the 6th time Vietnam has participated, and the first time it has been organized at the Hanoi Stock Exchange, aiming to highlight the crucial role of the private sector in promoting gender equality and empowering women economically towards sustainable business and social development.
Ms. Nguyen Kim Lan, Program Manager for Women's Economic Empowerment, UN Women Vietnam, presented at the workshop on the topic "Investing in Women: Accelerating Development".
This year's event, themed "Investing in Women: Accelerating Development," attracted nearly 100 delegates representing agencies, organizations, businesses listed on the HNX, and women-owned businesses in Hanoi and the northern provinces.
Delegates participated in the discussion session "Investing in Women: From Policy to Practice," listening to speakers exchange and share policies and business practices on gender equality, and on funding for gender-related activities to ensure that no one is left behind.
In addition, the event included several presentations on international experiences regarding businesses practicing gender equality and investment priorities for gender equality.

Previously, on March 4th, the "Ringing the Bell for Gender Equality" program was also jointly organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HOSE), the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment (UN Women), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Australian Embassy in Vietnam, and the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council, under the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).
The program was attended by nearly 80 delegates representing agencies, organizations, securities companies, companies listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HOSE), and women-owned businesses in Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces. Its purpose was to call for concerted efforts from all parties, including the private sector, to boost investment in women's development and gender equality in the workplace, community, and market.

According to the organizers, in a world facing numerous crises, 75% of countries will restrict spending on essential public services and social protection, which could significantly impact gender equality. Ensuring gender equality and empowering women economically is the best way to guarantee a prosperous economy and a sustainable society.
In 2024, the United Nations chose the theme for International Women's Day as: "Investing in Women – Accelerating Development" . This year's event calls on the private sector, especially listed and securities companies, to increase investment in women's development and gender equality in the workplace, community, and markets.
"Ringing the Bell for Gender Equality" is a call to action for stakeholders and the business community to continue working together to build a strong business community and an equitable, prosperous economy.
