This work compiles articles, analyses, and memoirs by General Vo Nguyen Giap about the entire process of strategic direction, force organization, and the developments of the three offensives of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign in 1954.
The National Political Publishing House has reprinted the Vietnamese version of General Vo Nguyen Giap's book, "Dien Bien Phu ," and also released an Arabic version. Prior to this, a solemn book launch event took place in Algeria on November 19th. The event was attended by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh during his visit to Arab countries.
The launch of the Arabic version marks a new stage in the development of Vietnam's publishing industry on its journey to spread national historical values to the world.

This book is one of the most valuable original historical documents in the treasury of Vietnamese military history. It compiles articles, analyses, and memoirs by General Vo Nguyen Giap on the entire process of strategic direction, force organization, and the course of the three offensives of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign in 1954. Based on the nine-year long resistance war, fought with self-reliance and relying primarily on our own strength, the book authentically portrays the courage, intelligence, and unwavering determination of our army and people, leading to a resounding victory that "shook the world and resonated across continents."
Through multiple editions, especially the 2024 and 2025 releases, the book has been revised and supplemented with important materials to ensure the integrity of the historical records left by the General.

The work consists of four main parts: Letters from President Ho Chi Minh to the Dien Bien Phu front; Dien Bien Phu; Articles about Dien Bien Phu; and an appendix including daily orders, attack orders, battle statistics, enemy-friendly situation, and other related documents.
With original excerpts from six historic letters written by President Ho Chi Minh to cadres and soldiers of the Dien Bien Phu front, to supply officers and civilian workers participating in the campaign… up to letters praising the soldiers, civilian workers, youth volunteers and people of the Northwest who united and bravely achieved the glorious victory when the Dien Bien Phu campaign ended in complete success, the first part of the book lays the foundation for the second part of the book - Dien Bien Phu .
The second part, written by General Vo Nguyen Giap, contains profound analyses and interpretations based on original historical sources regarding the Dien Bien Phu historical event. Particularly noteworthy in the second part are the General's strategic analyses of the Nava Plan, the enemy-friendly situation, and the decision to change the combat strategy from "quick victory" to "steady advance," which is considered a special value of the book. The General called this "the most difficult decision in his commanding career."
Part three of the book is a collection of articles and interviews by General Vo Nguyen Giap about the Dien Bien Phu Victory, presented through various commemorative events, offering a more objective and comprehensive historical perspective, supplementing and continuing the spirit of Dien Bien Phu in the nation-building process today.
Representatives from the publishing house affirmed that the book not only helps readers in the region access one of the most iconic military victories of the 20th century but also opens up opportunities for extensive research and academic exchange on the national liberation war, military art, and the peace-loving spirit of Vietnam.
The translation of the book Dien Bien Phu into Arabic was undertaken by a team of translators who are lecturers from the Department of Arabic Language and Culture, Faculty of Foreign Languages - VNU Hanoi.
