(CLO) On the morning of December 23rd, in Ca Mau province, the Emulation Cluster of Journalists' Associations of provinces and cities in the Southern Mekong Delta held a conference to summarize the work of 2024 and implement directions and tasks for 2025. Journalist Tran Trong Dung, Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association , attended the conference.


In 2024, the Southern Hau River Cluster Journalists' Association actively and effectively contributed to the task of disseminating information and promoting the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's administration in the region. They promptly reflected all aspects of social life, the legitimate aspirations and desires of all strata of the people; and promptly identified and encouraged new factors, advanced models, and great achievements in the implementation of resolutions of Party congresses at all levels, especially the action programs of the Provincial Party Committees and People's Committees of the provinces.

They will coordinate the organization of activities commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Vietnamese revolutionary press (Figure 1).

Press agencies promptly convey and implement the Party and State's guidelines, policies, and laws, contributing to the successful fulfillment of the local political tasks. They organize numerous activities to improve the quality of journalistic products, both in content and form.

Journalist Nguyen Thanh Dung, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association of Ca Mau province and Head of the Southern Hau River Cluster of Journalists Associations in 2024, emphasized: "One of the outstanding annual professional activities of the Southern Hau River Cluster of Journalists Associations is organizing the Spring Press Festival. Six out of seven Journalists Associations of the Southern Hau River Cluster organized the Spring Press Festival in 2024. On average, each province organizing the Spring Press Festival had more than 500 publications from provinces, cities, central newspapers, and special publications from departments, sectors, and localities within the province. At the same time, the Spring Press Festival also organized an exhibition of paintings and photographs showcasing the achievements in economic , cultural, social, security, and defense development of each province and city.”

The Associations also submitted their provincial Spring Festival newspapers to the 2024 National Press Conference held in Ho Chi Minh City. As a result, the Southern Hau River Cluster won the C Prize for the most impressive exhibition booth; two Spring Festival newspaper publications won the A Prize and a Consolation Prize for the most impressive Tet newspaper cover. All seven Associations participated in the National Press Awards, the Golden Hammer and Sickle Award, the Dien Hong Press Award, the Press Award for Protecting the Party's Ideological Foundation, the Mekong Delta Press Award, and other press awards organized by central ministries and agencies, achieving a certain level of success.

In addition, the associations within the Cluster all organize traditional journalism awards, such as: the Tran Ngoc Hy Traditional Journalism Award (Ca Mau), the Phan Ngoc Hien Traditional Journalism Award (Can Tho), and journalism awards for the provinces of Bac Lieu, Hau Giang, Kien Giang, Soc Trang, and An Giang.

In unifying the direction and tasks of the Emulation Cluster of Journalists' Associations in the provinces and cities south of the Hau River, Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists' Association Tran Trong Dung informed that the Central Committee is very determined to streamline the apparatus, including the streamlining of press agencies. The Central Committee has not yet issued any directives or guidelines for merging the Journalists' Association with other organizations, but some localities have already merged the Journalists' Association with the Literature and Arts Association. This merger is to be considered, arranged, and streamlined by the localities to ensure suitability and effective task implementation.

The Vice Chairman of the Journalists Association noted that the Journalists Associations of the provinces and cities in the Southern Mekong Delta region should coordinate well in organizing activities to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press Day; continue to consolidate and strengthen the branch associations, constantly innovate and improve the quality of activities, contributing to enhancing the role and position of journalists…

The conference unanimously agreed to award the rotating flag of the Cluster Leader for 2025 to the Bac Lieu Journalists Association, and to present certificates of merit from the Vietnam Journalists Association to the Soc Trang and Hau Giang Provincial Journalists Associations; and also signed a competition agreement between the Journalists Associations of the provinces and cities in the Southern Hau River region.
