SEA Games 33 December 10: Taekwondo brings Vietnam its first silver medal

Vietnamese martial artists Nguyen Thi Kim Ha and Nguyen Trong Phuc won the silver medal in the mixed doubles standard kata performance event. This is the first silver medal for the Vietnamese sports delegation at the 33rd SEA Games.

At 11:43 AM, in Jiujitsu, Dang Dinh Tung brought home Vietnam's fourth bronze medal in the men's 77 kg weight class. Dinh Tung lost to a fighter from the host country, Thailand.

At 11:28 AM, in Taekwondo, the pair Nguyen Trong Phuc and Nguyen Thi Kim Ha defeated Thailand in the semi-finals, giving them a chance to win the gold medal in the mixed doubles standard poomsae.

9:50 am, Taekwondo , Philippines has its first gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games. The first gold medalist for the Philippines was Justin Kobe Macario in men's individual freestyle.

Swimmer Vo Thi My Tien excellently completed the 200m butterfly qualifying round with a time of 2 minutes 16.24 seconds, placing third in the qualifying round. 9:15 am: Thailand won the first gold medal of the 33rd SEA Games. In the women's individual creative freestyle event, Moon Takekwondo - the host country's athlete, Limjitakorn, won the gold medal after beating two athletes from Singapore and Laos by a large margin. This is the first gold medal awarded at the 33rd SEA Games.

This is the first official competition day of the 33rd SEA Games, Vietnamese athletes will compete in 14 sports. Among them are many strong sports, which have brought many gold medals to Vietnam in previous SEA Games. The most anticipated are canoeing and taekwondo, which will compete at 9am.

The canoeing team will compete with athletes: Pham Hong Quan in the men's single canoeing 500m and the women's double canoeing 500m (Nguyen Thi Huong, Diep Thi Huong), and the mixed 4-scull 500m (Hoang Duy, Mai Hanh, Hoang Thi Huong, Thanh Danh). The most anticipated is the duo Nguyen Thi Huong and Diep Thi Huong.

With a series of poomsae finals taking place as early as 9am, taekwondo is likely to become the sport that opens the medal race, even the gold medal, for Vietnam at the 33rd SEA Games.

According to the registration of the coaching board of the Vietnam mountain bike team, cyclist Nguyen Thi Huyen Trang is the pioneer for the downhill mountain bike event. One of the notable figures in Vietnamese swimming is Nguyen Quang Thuan, the younger brother of former renowned swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien. In the 200m individual medley event held on the first official day of competition at the SEA Games, Nguyen Quang Thuan is one of the top contenders for the gold medal.
