Manchester United are continuing to reduce their wage bill with the departure of a number of high-earning players during the summer transfer window.

Casemiro is currently the highest-paid player at Old Trafford, earning £375,000 a week, but Manchester United's leadership still considers the Brazilian star a valuable asset in Ruben Amorim's squad.

Casemiro's contract with MU runs until June 2026, with an option to extend for another 12 months. The Red Devils' bosses can activate this option if the former Real Madrid player agrees to a pay cut below £200,000 per week.

In fact, after being initially ignored by Amorim, Casemiro worked hard to prove himself in training and impressed the Brazilian coach.

From the start of the 2025/26 season, Casemiro has regularly been included in the starting lineup in the Red Devils' midfield, alongside captain Bruno Fernandes.

Manchester United are planning a midfield overhaul this summer, with at least one major signing expected.

Nevertheless, Casemiro may remain, given the uncertainty surrounding Kobbie Mainoo's future and Manuel Ugarte's struggles to adapt to the Premier League environment.

Recently, the 33-year-old veteran played the full 90 minutes in both of Brazil's friendly matches against South Korea and Japan. Therefore, his chances of starting in the clash against Liverpool this weekend are relatively low.

Casemiro started four of the first five Premier League games this season, but he was sent off after receiving two yellow cards in the win against Chelsea.

Having missed the defeat against Brentford due to suspension, Casemiro was brought back into the starting lineup by manager Amorim in the victory against Sunderland (playing 85 minutes).
