On the evening of September 9th, Singapore suffered a 1-4 defeat against Bangladesh in their final Group C match of the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup qualifiers. The Southeast Asian representatives disappointed by losing all three matches.
Entering the match, both U23 Singapore and U23 Bangladesh had already been eliminated after losing to U23 Vietnam and U23 Yemen respectively in their first two matches. However, both teams were still determined to seek a victory to leave the tournament with dignity.
After a goalless first half, the game unexpectedly changed in the second half. Bangladesh U23 had an explosive second half, scoring four goals in quick succession. Fahamedul Islam opened the scoring in the 70th minute, and within the next 13 minutes, Al Amin, Ahmed Mohsin, and Shekh Morsalin scored to give Bangladesh a 4-0 lead.
Singapore U23's efforts only resulted in a consolation goal in injury time, scored by Khairin Nadim.
Previously, the Singapore U23 team lost to Yemen U23 1-2 and to Vietnam U23 0-1. They left the tournament in humiliation, failing to earn any points, scoring only 2 goals and conceding 7.
The 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup qualifiers will feature 44 teams, divided into 11 groups. After the qualifying matches, the 11 group winners and the 4 best-performing second-placed teams will qualify for the finals in Saudi Arabia.
