ASEAN Cyber Shield (ACS) is a hacking competition that aims to identify and nurture cybersecurity talent in Southeast Asia through international cooperation between Korea and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). This year, the competition was held in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta with a total prize pool of up to US$77,000.
The contest is divided into 2 groups: General and Student. In the General group, contestants do not necessarily have to be students and in the Student group, contestants must be students studying at universities in ASEAN.
According to information from Ho Chi Minh City University of Information Technology on the evening of November 24, surpassing 37 teams from 10 countries, a group of 4th year students from this school excellently won first place in the General category, with a prize of 20,000 USD.
Team UIT.purf3ct has 4 members: Nguyen Dang Nguyen, Phan Vinh Khang, To Dinh Nguyen, Le Khac Trung Nam. These candidates are currently studying the Information Security Talent Program, Faculty of Computer Networks and Communications, class of 2020.
In addition, the two remaining Vietnamese representatives, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, also won first prize in the Student category and Duy Tan University, Da Nang, came second in the General category.
A group of 4th year students from Ho Chi Minh City University of Information Technology won first prize in the General category.
SCHOOL PROVIDERS
The competition takes place over 4 days with 2 phases including a preliminary round in the form of Jeopardy (a type of quiz consisting of questions) from November 21 to 22, then each group takes the 5 teams with the highest scores to the final round focusing on Attack-Defence (November 23 and 24).
Previously, the UIT.Wolf_Brigade team of Ho Chi Minh City University of Information Technology also won the championship of the ASEAN Student Information Security Competition 2023 on November 11.
The contest is hosted by the Vietnam Information Security Association, in coordination with the Department of Information Technology (Ministry of Education and Training) and the Department of Information Security, Department of International Cooperation ( Ministry of Information and Communications ).
