Following the incident where a crane collided with and caused cracks in the bridge girders of Suoi Nhum Bridge, Hoa Binh 479 Joint Stock Company has committed to replacing the damaged girders using funds from the contractor and insurance company.
On January 1st, the Project Management Board for the Cai Mep - Thi Vai area transportation project (Ba Ria - Vung Tau, the project's investor) informed the Traffic Newspaper about the incident of falling and breaking of bridge girders on the Suoi Nhum bridge, part of component 3 of the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway project.
The Project Management Board affirmed that this incident was caused by a crane collision and was not related to the quality of the construction.
Construction of the Suoi Nhum Bridge is being accelerated to ensure it is completed on schedule.
According to the Project Management Board, the incident occurred at approximately 11:30 AM on December 31st. At that time, after the first girder was installed, during movement, the crane's tires slipped, causing a strong collision with the girder on the right side of the route. This then caused the edge girder to shift in a domino effect, resulting in the entire girder system falling from the pier and cracking.
Upon receiving the report, the Project Management Board, along with representatives from Hoa Binh 479 Joint Stock Company (the contractor) and the supervision consultant (Thang Long Construction Quality Supervision Consulting Joint Stock Company), went to the site to draw up a report confirming the incident.
It was determined that nine girder sections were fractured, but fortunately, the incident did not cause any casualties. Preliminary assessment suggests the cause of the incident was negligence in operating the machinery during the installation process.
A section of the highway through Ba Ria - Vung Tau has taken shape and been paved with asphalt.
The contractor commits to rectifying the beam installation process, replacing damaged beam sections at the contractor's own expense and that of the construction insurance company, ensuring the quality and progress of the project.
"We have requested the contractor to expedite the casting and reinstallation of the girders to meet the deadline and avoid affecting the overall project completion time," a representative from the Project Management Board said.
According to the Project Management Board's report, component project 3 of the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway has 11 bridges, including the Suoi Nhum bridge, which is a bridge on the main route at kilometer marker 37+421, crossing the existing Suoi Nhum stream in the Hac Dich ward, Phu My town.
The Suoi Nhum Bridge is 152.52m long, with 4 spans of I33m girders (40 girders) with 2 bridge abutments located on the two banks and 3 piers T1, T2, T3 located in the lake, on a foundation of D1000 bored piles with lengths ranging from 15.5m to 28m, the total number of bored piles for the bridge is 76.
The Suoi Nhum bridge project commenced on June 18, 2023, with Hoa Binh 479 Joint Stock Company as the contractor and Thang Long Construction Quality Supervision and Consulting Joint Stock Company as the supervising consultant.
By December 31, 2024, the project had completed the entire pile foundation structure and bridge piers, and finished casting 40 I33 girder segments, reaching 70% of the project volume.
The completed items have been constructed and inspected in accordance with the approved design plans. Construction equipment has been inspected, and personnel involved in operating the machinery and carrying out the construction have appropriate training certificates.
