Supachok surpassed Xuan Son and Tien Linh in the award for Best Striker of AFF Cup

(Dan Tri Newspaper) - Thai star Supachok is currently ahead of Xuan Son to lead the award for Best Striker at the AFF Cup 2024.

The organizers of the AFF Cup 2024 have announced the nominees for the Best Forward award. The nominees include: Xuan Son, Tien Linh (Vietnam), Suphanat Mueanta, Patrik Gustavsson, Supachok Sarachat (Thailand), Shawal Anuar, Faris Ramli (Singapore), Bjorn Martin Kristensen (Philippines), and Joao Pedro (Timor Leste).

According to initial predictions, Vietnam's striker Nguyen Xuan Son was considered the strongest contender. The 1997-born star won the tournament's top scorer title with 7 goals. He was also honored with the Best Player award at the AFF Cup. However, because this was an online poll voted on by fans, the results may not be entirely accurate. The leading name was Thailand's Supachok, receiving 50.50% of the votes. This player was absent from the entire group stage and only scored one goal in the AFF Cup – a long-range goal against Vietnam in the second leg of the final at the Rajamangala Stadium. However, this goal was controversial. Many argued that Supachok and the Thai team played unfairly by not returning the ball to Vietnam. Because of this goal, Supachok became the most controversial figure after the match.

Supachok won the award for Best Goal of the second leg of the AFF Cup final. Not only that, he also dominated the award for Best Goal of the tournament. Many Vietnamese fans urged others to vote for the 1998-born star, causing his number of votes to increase dramatically. Xuan Son only ranked second in the Best Forward category with 40.40%. Supachok and Xuan Son were far ahead of the rest. Third place went to Suphanat Mueanta with only 4.8%, while Tien Linh came in fourth with 2.76%. The race between Xuan Son and Supachok for this award promises to be very exciting. If he wins, Supachok will dominate all the online voting awards for which he was nominated by the AFF Cup organizers.
