This morning, June 26th, over 1.16 million students took the 2025 high school graduation exam - the first exam to follow two curricula, with Literature materials outside of textbooks, a record number of elective subjects, and a record number of exam codes.

The exam took place over 1.5 days, also the shortest in the past 10 years. The majority were students in the first cohort following the new general education program (2018), with the core objective of developing competencies and qualities.

Students will take two compulsory subjects and two elective subjects. The first exam is Literature, which took place this morning, starting at 7:35 AM. The exam material will be outside of the textbooks, something unprecedented.

At 6:30 AM, the temperature in Hanoi was around 30 degrees Celsius, quite muggy. At many exam locations in Hanoi, such as Chu Van An Secondary School and Chu Van An High School for the Gifted, many candidates had arrived 30-45 minutes earlier. This is one of four exam locations in Hanoi with a large number of independent candidates, including professional soldiers, monks, and Buddhist followers.

On both sides of the school gate, volunteers set up waiting chairs and provided drinks for parents. Along Thuy Khue street, parents sat under the trees waiting for their children.

In Da Nang and Khanh Hoa, many parents also brought their children to the exam sites very early and didn't forget to hug and encourage them to do well on the test.

Here are some touching photos of parents taking their children to the high school graduation exam under the scorching sun in 2025, captured by the Tien Phong newspaper's reporting team:
